new to 3000gts, gotta few questions.

hey, im 16 and i just got a 1999 mitsubishi 3000gt SL for my first car, i love it. im sry if this stuff has been posted before but id just like a few answers if possible.

i have had my timing belts and everything changed, cars at 132,xxx miles (i am the 3rd owner, it seems to have been taken care of well) and seems to be runnin pretty good from the best i can tell, no performance mods except i have taken off the intake resonator. i was just curious if theres any other general maintnence that i should have done?

and just for kicks, i got a friend with a turboed 240, couplea friends with trans ams, and one with a beast of an audi S4. now i know the S4 is outta my league but is there anything i can do that could possibly put me up to the levels of the other ones without expensive twin turbo conversions? whats possible?

thank you for your time sry if any of this is reposted from old stuff..

TT conversion could put you in there league no problem. Read the FAQ thread at the top of the 3000gt/Stealth part of the forum and read through it. You will find useful information about the TT conversion and other useful tips.

ok i will read through it, any tips on general maintnence? and do the nonturbo mods, like intakes and underdrive pulleys etc acually do much for these cars? or is turbo the only way to go?

They do help some. If you are really looking for a car that can do low 14's or better you would definately want to go turbo. N/a only gets you so far on these cars.

thts wht i was thinkin, thx for your help much apprecieated. ill look over those guides for conversions n such. do you by any chance have a rough idea how a stock SL could compare with say a 240, or an older probe GT, and V6 camaros (V8's would prolly murder them right?)?

no problem, you could even give an older mustang GT a run for its money if you can drive...

Re: new to 3000gts, gotta few questions.

nitrous wont hurt for the time being, if u want to keep it na cuz of budget. get any normal intake would be fine. if u want to wait to go turbo, u might think about donight thing sfor reliabilty and/or suspension. lowering the car makes it l;ook hella kool overall. a nice koyo radiator would be wise if u wanna race iot a lot and/or tour. ummmm other then the i have an sl and im just building on the na, see if i can work a maricle. u might also just condsider making it run fast for nas(headers, nitrous, pulley, etc) make it look sweet (even tho 99's already do) then maybe sell it for a vr4 later. dont rush into anything huge like a tt conversion so fast, u actually have a lot of potential in the sl, powers made with teh crankshaft and pistons, and u go all that, so just think about it. my .2$... toodles

Re: new to 3000gts, gotta few questions.

If the trans ams are LT1's or older models and stock, put a few good mods on your SL, learn how to drive really well, and you can give them a good run. If they are LS1's, better go with a TT conversion.

Older GT Probes should not be much of a problem, a stock 240 same thing....if I had a nickel for every V6 body I beat I would be a rich man (or for that matter, every single GM 3800 car) as that is probably the car I have killed the most of. V8 F-body's will outmatch a SL in a drag if each are stock.

Pre-LT1's run even with an SL stock for stock, aka the '87-92 V8 350 F-bodys (L98).

Re: new to 3000gts, gotta few questions.

^^ Yep, and the 305's should not be taking down a SL. I had a run with a 305 and when was all said and done I was embarassed for him.

Re: new to 3000gts, gotta few questions.

thx for all the help. any1 know if borla catbacks r worth it (or just a total waste of money?). ive heard of people putting flowmaster delta flow 40 series mufflers on as a custom job. do they acually sound good? anything compareable (and any hints on not making it sound like an angry beehive?)

You will be better off with a single shot if you're going strictly for performance. If you don't like the single exit (like me ), you should go with what you said: a custom job with a flowmaster 40, or another muffler of your choice. Many people run the flow40, and it sounds good. Here's a thread on 3SI with a clip in the first post.
