Tamiya Recommended Colours....
hi, quite new to automotive modelling,
just got a Tamiya Ford Focus RS 2002 and abt to start getting the paints.. there seem to be about 24 different types of tamiya paint.. Must I get all of them so that my model will be perfect ? Can i like substitute some minor details becos i afraid it might turn out ugly... Do you guys usually get all the paints recommended in the manual ?

If you're going to build more model cars fairly soon, I suggest buying all of them at once, because most of those colors are basic ones, and you'll need them later anyway.

I agree with hirofkd- you may as well buy them now- as they will last a LONG time and will prove useful for future kits. I know it hurts to part with the cash for so many paints...its tough to handle just starting out and you're unsure of your skills or enjoyment.
One suggestion I would have is to analyze in the instructions and where certain colors are used. You may have a better idea than TAMIYA as to what colors would work best. Also, I suggest you try Testors brand "Metallizers" I always avoided testors, but these are quite good! I use spraycan, but you can use it in airbrush also. I even like how forceful it comes out of the can compared to TAMIYA paints. Finally, browse sites like hirofkd has made to get inspiration and tips on how to make your models even better! GOOD LUCK!!!

First of all, welcome to AF. Make sure you read the FAQ section, it is very, very helpfull and it will answer many question you may have.
I'm building the same kit now, and I agree with hirofkd. The more colours you buy now, the better. You'll need them sooner or later on your future models. Sennake is building this kit too. check out his progress thread: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...focus+wrc+2002

What i usually do is go through the manual and see what colours are used where... the rx7 R1 told me to get x-5 (green is it?), so i looked up where the car had to be painted in that colour. Well figures that its a part you don't even see after model assembly, so i didn't buy that. I also didn't buy the white colour it told me to buy (because I couldn't see where it had to be used only to find out that tamiya misspelled the colour code)... As long as you have the major colours (for interior and underbody) you should be fine... I have three different blacks already, and one of them I haven't even used yet, go figure :P

thnks a bunch peeps. i think i'll invest in all the colours...
that way it keeps me building future models and since it is my first one, I might as well go by the book since I feel i need to know n understand the various colors more...
