Unhappy 2000 Blazer won't go into 4WD....Help !!

Hello all, My 200 Blazer won't go into 4 WD now for some reason....the other day a dash light came on that said "Service 4WD" and since then if I press either the Auto 4WD or the 4Hi buttons they just blink on and off and it never goes in. Does anyone have any idea if this is a common problem with an easy fix ? We're getting snow this weekend and my dealer appointment isn't until Monday so I'd like to fix it myself.

Thanks !

I was having the same problem with my 97 Blazer. The vacuum switch located on top of the transfer case was shot. It has three small vacuum lines on the receiving end and the other end has a ball bearing that gets worn out. $15-$30 for the part (I paid $30 but noticed others in this forum have only paid $15. I'm now having problems with the dashboard controls, but the vacuum switch needed to be replaced regardless.

Where is this vacuum switch everyone is talking about ? I was just under my Blazer and all I see on the front axle towards the passenger side tube is a bolted on plate (looks like some sort of actuator) with a screwed in switch and 2 wire connector, and a cable that runs up under the battery tray. ?????

The vacuum switch is located on top of the transfer case, so you can't actually see it, but rather you have to reach around from underneath. On my model (1997) the 4wd transfer case closer to the driver side of the vehicle -- almost directly below the where the right leg would be if you were driving, if it helps to think of it in those terms.

It's a somewhat cumbersome fix because of the lack of wiggle room. I had so little room that I was unable to get enough leverage to work a socket wrench so I removed the driver seat, pealed away the carpet and drilled a hole just in front of the seat bolt and to the right by the stick shift to get at it.

Thumbs down You just got burned!!!

I replaced the vacuum switch on my 1991 a couple of weeks ago. I had to go to a dealership to get it. It cost $33.00 and takes 5 minutes ot replace. A bit tough to get to, but I wouldn't have paid anyone $100.00!!! What kind of warranty has this deductible? Extended warranties are always a rip off!

The kind that you pay only $35 when you buy a used private vehicle to transfer it over......seriously I know how to do my own work, but it was going in for some other things that I didn't care to do myself....

Cool

a 2000 blazer does not have a vacume switch on the transfercase
it is on the firewall above the coil,, check to make sure the line does
not have a hole in it,, then on the right kick panel when you hit the button do you here a click??
