97 Cavalier 2.2L suspension noise

We own a 97 2.2L Cav.that is soon to become the new parts runner of the houshold. but I would still like to keep it in decent, reliable, condition.

I have noticed a knocking noise coming from what seems to be the rear suspension under normal driving conditions. My first instinct led me to belive it was coming from the rear strut towers, upper mounts. but after inspecting them I found nothing that would lead me to belive there is a problem (surface level). The struts all arround need to be replaced, but the ride quality is not that bad, and like I said, this car is desten to be our new parts runner and I dont want to put the 280.00 (parts) into it if I don't have to.

I'm wondering if anyone has experianced the same suspension noise I'm talking about, and has sugestions. I was riding in a buddy's 97 Cavalier the ther day and he has the same problem, but his struts are in good shape.

My 97 cav i just got has the same knocking or bumping sound, i had to take it in to get the safety done and they said it was the rear strut tower mounts i believe. It doesnt have to be replaced for the safety so im not going to fix it lol, this is just a winter car since i dont want to drive my firebird in the snow.

2.2L suspension noise

Thanks FireCav97,

Witch recall did you go in for, was it the steering bearing seperation? or is there a recall for the rear strut towers?

Did they explaine the issue with the tower mounts? upper or lower?
Any details?

I'm fairly sure he said upper strut mounts, but like i said it didnt affect the safety on the car so i didnt get it fixed. I didnt go in for a recall on anything i just bought this car and had to take it in for a safety before i can drive it, and i got an emmision test today and it passed, wich i was surrprissed becuase i have a valve train ticking problem i have to check on.
