2001 Malibu - Utility Trailer wiring harness question...
I purchase a reese wiring kit (car end) to connect to a utility trailer and it is a 4 wire connection that has a ground (white), park lights (brown), left turn signal and brake (yellow), and right trn signal/brake (green). But on the malibu the turn signals and brakes are separte wires so I somehow need to combine the two wirtes into one, but I cannot do a direct splice since it will essentially short circuit the other circuit and light up the signal when the brakes are depressed, and flash all brake lights when the signals are turned on...does anyone have a solution for this....?? The wiring kit is supposed to be for the Malibu but am I missing another component...or not wiring it correctly...?? (the kit contained only four connectors as well).

Yes, you will need a module that will accept all of the inputs separately and send out just the ones you need for the flat 4 connector, this piece is available at most parts stores, especially ones specializing in trailers and hitches. Good luck.

What do they call that module you are talking about? I have a 98 malibu that I tow behind a motorhome and then again I tow a utility trailer at times. Will module interfer with the motorhome wiring? |
