70 hood

My 1970 el camino hood is bending in front of the hinge. does anyone know of a source for a hood stiffener for it . the only ones I have found are in JC Whitney and they say for 1973-1987

Re: 70 hood

Try oiling your hinges, then the hood shouldn't bend. If you want to strengthen it try welding some more metal onto the area.

Re: 70 hood

There are parts catalogs that sell softer springs, for use on fiberglass hoods. But since your hood is already bending...it might be time to replace the hood.

Problems in the Hood?

Unfortunately this is a chronic problem with the 70-72. My 70 did the same thing. That damn whole in front of the hinge is the problem. I think I actually have a set of those stiffeners kicking around here somewhere. I'll recheck the fit and get back to you. Mine may have been generic...I think. Anyway...I seem to remember they were really close. If the bending hasn't ruined the hood I would put in some stiffeners of some sort and use the weaker springs as was suggested. This is silly, but make sure when you close the hood to push back first then close down. This seems to help preserve the hood by disengaging the hinge from the fully extended position. Hope this helps!

Remember 'Camino's were made to haul ass...So get to it!
