Hood pins on a c/f hood?

some of the hoods ive seen advertised say that hood pins should be used. If my c/f hood used the stock latching mechanism are hoodpins really essential?

I would assume the latch would be enough, but as a precaution the hoodpins are nice. it's an aftermarket hood who knows how well it's manufactured...

It depends on the manufacturer. Some hoods are good quality, and extremely strong so they dont need a hood pin. Some cheaper, low quality ones will break. Sometimes the latch breaks, or the fiberglass skeleton holding the latch breaks, or even the CF skin seperates from the fiberglass skeleton. Remember, at high speeds, there is alot of wind that goes over AND under the hood. You dont want that hood to fly up on the freeway. My CF hood's latch was reinforced with a not only fiberglass, but CF as well. So mine is very stable.

are hood pins used along with the latch or just by themselves? if its just by themselves arn't you afraid of people being able to get into your engine?

You need to use the latch ... hoodpins are there for more reinforcement ...

No, I dont have Figer Images. I wouldnt mind having them, but I dont have any connections with them for getting it any cheaper than retale. My hood is made by VIS.
