97 Pathfinder Tire Squeal
I have a 97 Nissan Pathfinder LE with Goodyear Wrangler RT/S wheels or something like that. I notice that when I make turns at even moderate speeds, my tires squeal like they are about to give out.
I checked alignment, fine. Tire: 34 P.S.I. Does anyone else have this same problem? |

Yep, my '98 Pathfinder with 265/70/15's (Bridgestone Dueler HTs) squeal just as you described.
That's why I'm dreaming about putting 17 or 18 inch wheels on my ride to cut down on the side wall flex when cornering. Unfortunately, this would probably affect acceleration and mpg's because the wheel/tire combo will almost certainly weigh more than stock. Of course, beefier anti-sway bars and an upgraded spring/strut setup would help cut down on body roll as well, but I don't have that kind of dough. ![]() I also looked into lowering the ride height with springs, but unfortunately I couldn't locate anyone that manufactures lowering springs for my Pathfinder (everyone sells lift kits for the Pathfinder). I know this all sounds kind of funny to all of you out there, but I never go offroad, and my previous car was a European touring sedan (changed vehicles under circumstances beyod my control), so the Pathfinders handling characteristics just don't compare, I know, I know, it's an SUV. ![]() |
