My rear deck speakers on my 95 g20t are in need of replacement. Any thoughts on how to remove the old speakers would be appreciated. The grill appears securly attached to the fascia and the fascia appears to be very securly attached to the rear deck! Also any comments on replacements? I am considering Polk EX 652a or Infinity kappa 652.1i. I still have the original equipment clarion amps. Thanks!

Don't you mean "one 12" ghetto..." A twelve foot speaker seems awfully large.

What about the '96 standard model? I've been thinking of doing a speaker upgrade myself. Nothing ambitious, just a drop-in situation if possible. Likewise with the fronts. Has anyone done anything like that, and how have the results been?

How does the top panel come off? There are three plastic screws which are easily unscrewed, but that does not release the top panel. According to the manual they are for attaching child seats. My model does have the rear seats which fold down. There are seat bolsters on each side which also look like they may have to be removed to properly attack the rear deck panel. How are these removed? The car is incredibly tight, no rattles, would like to keep it that way! Thanks

oh shit i forgot the newer ones have the fold down seats. damn u guys. ne wayz to take the fronts out all u gotta do it pop off the little pastic things that cover some screws. theres 4 on the bottom under the littel holder and 1 on the side of the door i belive. then u can unscrew the grill and take the speaker out. that way u dont have to take the whole door panel off

Take the bench part out by pulling up on the seat, it has two posts that clip into the body. If you were to sit in the backseat on both sides, the clips would be between your legs.....aw hell, just feel for them. After you pull the bottom out of the two tabs, you have to remove the backing. There's one screw in the lower corner on both sides of the seat, I believe it's a 12mm. When those are removed, yank up on the seat, it is clipped DOWN into the body. So you must pull UP to unclip the seat. The posts would be mid back, one on both sides. Now your whole rear seat should be removed (two pieces). The deck is fastened in the front, totally obvious. Take out the child seat screws on the top. Now, remove the deck brake light, which just unsnaps with a little effort. Now for the fun part. There are approx. 6 plastic tabs that are connected to the bottom side of the fiberboard deck. They run all along the rear window, so it's a bitch to undo these without breaking one or something. Once the tabs are undone, it's all gravy after that. But guess what, Infinity 6 1/2's are too small (I know by experience), I had to re-drill new holes on the out edge of the speaker frame and use silicon to dampen the rattling it caused. Wiring them is straight forward, of course reverse steps to put back together.

The front speakers are just as bad as the rears. The front speakers have a plastic shield enclosure that is a pain in the ass. I found if you want to use coaxials, don't use Infinity Kappa, magnet's too big and too deep. I ended up using the stock shield with some 4x6 Infinity Kappa plates, of course a little bit of modification was required. Wiring them is about as dumb as wiring any car through the door. Taking the door panel off is the way I went, never tried taking off just the grill, but taking off the panel is pretty straight forward.

So you see, the G20 is not just a remove and replace kinda car, at least not for speakers. In all honesty, it was much easier to cut out a hole in door panel and put in my Kappa tweets in than it was replacing an aftemarket speaker in a stock location.

BTW, my system is: Infinity Kappa 60.2 component set, tweets in the front, 6 1/2 mid subs in the rear deck. Infinity Kappa 4x6 plates in the lower stock location, two more Kappa 6 1/2 mid subs in rear arm rest, Infinity x-overs in trunk with 3 10W6's, two Phoenix Gold ZX amps and Phoenix Gold interconnects and wire. NOT A WALK IN THE PARK, PERSONALLY, IF I WEREN'T SO THE D.I.Y. TYPE AND HAD A LITTLE LESS PRIDE, I WOULD'VE HAD A SHOP DO IT. BUT IT WAS A LEARNING EXPERIENCE. HOPE THIS HELPS.:grey:

I went through this hell already and the last post is exactly what you need to do. It took me over an hour to do it. You have to take your time or you roof liner will get messed up.

I recommend the Kappa also sound great if you are going to do upgrade. I kept the stocks but if I had it to do it again ....

I just did this, and there's one thing you also need to remember to do. before you try to take off the back portion of the seat, fold down the armrest, stick your fingers between the seat and the top of the furry backing stuff behind where the armrest was. pull this thing off (it is a piece of cardboard with furry cloth stapled to it, attached to the seat frame with velcro). Now unscrew the two bolts on the largest beam. removing the seat is now much easier on your back ::}
