Anyone Work At Best Buy..?

Hello everyone, i'm most likely gonna be hired to work at best buy as a salesman in the home theater/tv section. Anyone ever work in best buy..? I know it's all NON-commision sales, so i'm wondering if they pressure you to meet goals and quota's like commisioned jobs..?

They like my experiance in retail, but they know i don't know alot about tv's/home theater.....mainly my expertise is in car audio/electronic's..

If you have any knowledge of how it is to work there, let me know...

I'm wondering if they will train me...or just throw me on the sales floor thinking i'm gonna sell like richie roma..

Oh Best Buy hahaha. My 2 roomates worked there all through out college. It was so easy to steal. I didnt steal cause I am a puss but they always had people come in and do it. They would fill a shopping cart up with crap walk out the door the buzzer would go off my friend would walk up to the guy stealing and check his fake reciept and say "your good". They would sell all the stuff they sold. Crazyness I dont agree with but it was funny to see just how stupid that store is.

I have a couple friends that work at Best Buy and from what I gather the pressure to get sales is different from manager to manager because they see bigger bonuses from better sales.

have they told you what your sales requirements are and that you have to meet them? or are you just assuming that you have them?

as far as knowing the stuff, do a quick search on howthingswork.com for hometheater, and then bust out some product manuals on the stuff you sell. if you can understand car audio, you'll be fine.

pretty muck like car audio. But with a much broader sound. Try understanding different setups in rooms that vary in size and shape.

just some stuff i thought of.

*the cords are color coded, yes it really is that easy

*the sub goes in the corner. any corner.

*your sound will only be as good as your cables (sell them alot of monster cable and your boss will love you)

*component video rocks your socks and HDTV is a ripoff (but dont tell them that, you'll lose sales)

*universal remotes arent really universal

They really didn't explain to much about operations and such, just mainly asked me a ton of questions. I did good on that, the trick is telling them what they want to hear.....THAT i learned from experiance.

Sales, ah..hopefully i'll like selling this stuff, cause not making ANY commision SUCKS these days. I remember 8 months ago when Circuit City called me in on an interview... They specifically told me that pressure is usually high on selling, although you make 0 in commision. PS a week later i was working at autozone. It's amazing how much you can learn though, ex... when i started autozone i knew 0 about car..just car audio...after 2 months i knew how to change starter's, alt's, plugs, tune up parts, and felt much better about myself working there.. That didn't work out cause the new DM was a C*NT..

Interview...lol, this week i got the final one with a "head Manager"...to discuss my previous interview and pay. Hopefully i'll get the job, then read up on all that i can to learn about this stuff. It is probably similair to car audio, hey atleast i'll like what i'm selling.....rather then selling computers...yuck..

bigger speakers = more betterest

I work for Best Buy. I use to work on the sales floor until I got myself certified, now Im an installer. Here is some advice, only take this job if you can get your hands on some really good drugs. There are alot of morons out there ( Customers/ co-workers). Mostly your customers though. You'll see what Im talking about after you have worked there for about a month. P.S. Managers aren't that brilliant either.

It's like that with almost any retail job. The customers are always morons.

this probably sounds like a horrible thing to say, but i'm actually considering applying at Best Buy or Circuit City. some place that deals with electronics. i've been working the same job for 5 years, on and off. full time during the winter and summer, part time during school. It's a GIS analyst position and i'm getting a little tired of it. It's really the only REAL job i've had, i mowed lawns and did yard work as a little kid, but ever since i was 16 i've been working in this position. I would like to "spread my wings" a little bit before i finish college (in two years probably) so i know what all is out there and what to stay away from.
