Talking You might remember this Cuda from earlier this year, well it's makeover time!

I felt like I had not done this model enough justice from earlier in the year, It was my Blown Hemi Cuda Streetcar(Pics unavailable) but I've felt like giving it a little more. Here's a list and there are some photos too.

Engine Mods

Original 426 Hemi engine painted black
Larger supercharger
Twin carbies
Holley Megascoop
Nitrous
Sparkplug wiring
Complete Straight aluminium exhaust ending with twin 'Fartcan' mufflers
Custom radiator with twin thermo fans
Possible Intercooler(No idea if Roots style blowers can be intercooled)

Drivetrain Mods

Stock manual transmission
Custom shortened driveshaft
Big diff

Chassis Mods

Might be a custom flat bottomed styrene chassis
Chopped front suspension
Rear 1/18th scale prostock wheel tubs
Tube frame?

Suspension Mods

Rear Traction bars
Rear and front Coil-overs?
It'll definetly need some wheelie-bars!
Chopped and lowered front suspension
Poseable steering rack on the front?
It'll nearly be laying frame

Body Mods

Full respray in Italian Red with gold basecoat
Shaved handles, weather strips and spoilerless boot
Body coloured bumpers
Flat enginebay
Opening boot
Maybe some 'Hemi Monster' murals?

Interior Mods

Painted satin black with black felt carpet
Flat red drag racing seat
Custom transmission tunnel
Seperate front handbrake lever
Pistol grip shifter or Hurst shifter
Obviously a rollcage

Other Mods

Skinny front Dragway Autodrag rims
Deepdish rear Dragways Autodrag rims
Skinny front Goodyear Polyglas GT - F70-R15 tires
Rear Formula One tires, but lets call them Goodyear drag slicks
Twin Parachutes
Bonnet pins
Battery in boot
Scratchbuilt twin fuel cells in boot
Who knows what else will pop up?

Some pictures are attached below. This will be a part-time project that will (by looking at the list of modifications I just typed) take along time to complete but should be worth it. I hope that this time around I can bring the true justice to the `Cuda, the type it deserves because it was one of if not the greatest Musclecar of all time. I hope you enjoyed this and I will eventually update this thread once more.
Please leave your comments and/or suggestions on the building of this model. I honestly think, that if all goes right it will be my best model yet.

Thankyou for looking.

Ok thanks man I thought it sounded a bit odd and I've never seen intercooled roots blowers before, but somehow I thought it could work, oh well, stupid me!

I already sanded one of the slicks, check the slick on the left hand side of the photo.

Re: You might remember this Cuda from earlier this year, well it's makeover time!

Fuck it, no-one on here cares for these types of cars anymore and I've stopped this project anyway because I need to start it on a new kit.
Shit, I won't bother posting any of my models on here then, I got told that if I can't find anything different on here post something different on here myself, but no-one seems to care. Well if I make a model that has fartcan mufflers, loads of stickers, pointless 2 foot high spoliers and a turbo I'll post it up.
Sorry to anyone that actually likes some of the things I build, if you want to check it out though you'll have to visit the Layitlow model forums, it's just not worth me posting my models on here any more.

Hey, don't bail out now, man. I want to see what you do for the rear suspension on this thing. I'd suggest kitbashing the backhalf of one of the Revell Promods. The most common one now is the Christine '58 Plymouth. With a little shortening of the basic floorpan, you could probably fit the whole thing underneath thus eliminating most of the grunt work. Interior work would be the trick.

Also, the kit has a nitroused, twin-carb wedge motor and great Lenco transmission.

Re: You might remember this Cuda from earlier this year, well it's makeover time!

Yeah thanks man, but I just can't be bothered to put up with this kit now, I need to do so much new custom work to it but it has already had 2 lives so far, it would be best for me to start off clean pieces of plastic. I also been hearing that the 71 `Cuda street Machine kit is better then this one, so I might get that instead of this again, but this kit has done it's job it has made me think of soemthing I think would look sweet on a `Cuda, especially if it has Lambo style doors and a reverse hinged boot and bonnet.
I'm not bailing out, I'm just uh, addign a major modification to it...

Well, the bummer you'll have to face is that all of the Revell-Monogram Challenger/Cuda kits were produed from the same tooling. It caused a lot of grief, especially when they produced a 1970 AAR 'Cuda (my favorite 'Cuda) and used the Challenger roofline and rear fenders. OOPS!

Of course, the AMT Challenger, based on the old Yankee Challenger tooling from the mid 70's, is a lot worse. Damn thing is a convertible with optional coupe roof.

The best 'Cuda I've ever seen is the JoHan Sox & Martin Hemi 'Cuda. The chassis is a little iffy (since the kit was tooled when Sox & Martin WERE professionally drag racing 'Cudas) but it has a great Pro Stock Hemi with huge carbs and the loveliest set of headers I've seen for a big Mopar. Here's a picture of what to look for.

Here's an image of a slammer model built with that kit that I think is close to what you're trying to do.

Sweet slammer!
I was looking at the Nash Bridges Cuda release earler tonight... Box model did'nt look that good and the box listed only 70 parts, though I've heard this is a good kit.
Too many projects anyway...

Purpura, I'd personally love to see a cuda in the way you've described it. Please keep posting your projects on this board, they'r basically all I can look at to keep myself motivated. We haven't lost yet

I'm on a few things, but not crack

I still am making it, but I just need a new kit to make it from, the current one is too used ot use again. Older styled car models probably seem more exciting to you because they have engine details and the few Muscle followers on here that love them make them look good! Take Hawk312 for example, look at his models
Sometimes I just see no point in posting the cars I build on here, so many people on here are so negative to old styled cars, that I just can't bring myself to post them sometimes.

Bloodhound - Thanks man, I've noticed that you haven't built any of those models in your signature since I've been going to Layitlow more, you got a model block? we still have to do that meetup sometime man, maybe this time next year? I'm going to be pretty busy soon, I just got offers to goto my formal in some Lowriders from the club I am a member of, so I need to start prepping for my formal, even though it is in December. I've got so many Lowrider models that I need to finish aswell, on top of that I have to get a job, a bank account, work shit out with Centerlink, get my L's license & save up for my WB Statesman

Layla's Keeper - Thanks for that advice! I've realised that the Revell Challenger and Cuda are virtually 95% identical, but that Cuda kit looks like it's an old one, obviously. I've seen it once at my model store but it was about $60AUD

That doorslammer styled `Cuda does look awesome but it isn't exactly what I am going for. I might photoshop a picture up later of what I want it too look like. Ok sorry for typing on and on, I'll stop now.

Hey Purpura! I've actually finished the Camaro and the oldsmobile, and the GT500 is well on it's way to being complete. the camaro is very lack-lustre though, and there aren't any stripes on the back of the 442(I tore them with frosted tape ) once I've finished the GT500, which is looking fantastic in it's candy blue I might add, I'll feature all of them together with a few progress shots. Can't wait to see more about this project of yours. very ambitious.

Yeah, I checked it out on Hobby-Heaven's site. They have one with wrecked decals for $30 American. Ouchies.

Reasonable price all things considered, but considering the cash you'd drop into this thing on kits for swiping parts out of it'd be a lot of a body and a few token interior/chassis parts.

The Revell '71 Hemi 'Cuda does have the right rear backlight and fenders. Plus it's 1/24th which the guys around here love (I like 1/25th for my muscle cars, makes them feel less bulky). Man, tons of chassis work to get anything decent. One piece front suspension, three piece rear if I recall right.

Oh, if you want to save yourself some grief, hunt down AMT's Pro Street Coronet/Super Bee or Roadrunner. It has a wonderful backhalved chassis with four-link and tubs that can be cut and spliced onto just about anything (I'm using it on a Lindberg 1964 Dodge 330, and my Dad is using it on a Revell 1969 Charger R/T). That kit also has one helluva engine; the prototype DOHC Hemi. Swear to god, they made one in '71. Just never got past the test-shop dyno program. Plus tunnel-ram intake, great Centerline wheels with Mickey Thompson tires, C4 Corvette seats, and a very nice satin plated electric fan.

That's one you'd find in either your local hobby shop, or on the web for about $10-$15 American.

And hey, no problem at all, man. I tend to like jabbering on about Mopar kits. Dad and I have been trying to build them all. (my autocross prepped MPC Omni O24 diorama should be interesting)

I've read that there actually were 3 of them! Don't worry about whether or not other people want to see your musclecars, there are those of us that love the occasional classic more than occasionally . I'm halfway finished with a '69 GTO as we speak if it's any encouragement . Keep on going with this project because it's what's keeping you involved in modelling at this point. I'll reference my signature to show you my outlook on modelling If you're not making yourself happy with what you're doing, then you shouldn't do it! There's room for all types of modecars here!! I'll shut up and go back into my little corner now.

Re: Re: You might remember this Cuda from earlier this year, well it's makeover time!

Bloodhound - That's great to read your happy with how your GT500 is coming along, that's really good to see I hope you keep it cool and get it done proper, I'll look out for the thread in a while then.

Layla's Keeper - Sounds like that Superbee comes with alot of nice things, especially that rear suspension setup. I already have some tires that I think make good looking drag slicks though, I'll see if I can find that kit for cheap because I am always low on cash, might go halves with my friend and just use the back end, I don't mind about the engine or seats etc.

Antonio - Looking great as usual, I am finding some happiness making my musclecars but they aren't the only kits I am making, I make quite a few lowriders now, I have that 86 Monte SS still going, I've just turned on the El Camino to turn it into a lowrider with my first custom panels, like a custom cut roof and I'm going to put a nice setup in the tray, but I need to get some big wirewheels, I can't find many models to use the traditional wheels on besides my Impalas so I need about 5-6 sets of big wires so I can get my lowriders into some proper progress. Speaking of Impalas and progress, I'm still going on the 63 Impala SS that I bought awhile ago, but I have changed my plans, I'm now making it in the style that El Chicano from the August issue of Lowrider Magazine was built. Dark blue metallic, silver roof with some patterns, 2 pumps 6 batteries, custom interior and some chrome 13" wires.

Well, I'll stop typing so much again and go back to well...doing what I do.... I guess that this project will be built with the same `Cuda kit again and hopefully the rear end setup from that Superbee.

Thanks for your help everyone.
