Re: recall ...earlier this year

I checked with my local dealer and they said we would be contacted by GM.

I would recommend it you bought your car as the 2nd or beyond owner you go to the GM website and register your VIN with them as the new owner.

General Motors Corporation
Models: Oldsmobile Aurora Years: 1995-1997
Number Potentially Involved: 93,572
Dates of Manufacture: September 1993 – June 1997
Defect: Certain passenger vehicles equipped with a 4.0-liter V8 engine have a condition in which the nylon tubing used in the fuel rail construction may degrade and crack. Additionally, the MY 1995 Aurora uses a unique underhood fuel return line that may crack. Cracking of the fuel rail or return line tubing can result in a fuel leak into the engine compartment. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire.
Remedy: Dealers will install a new fuel rail assembly constructed out of stainless steel. Dealers will also install a revised chassis fuel return line. The manufacturer has reported that owner notification is expected to begin during May 2004. Owners may contact Oldsmobile at 1-800-630-6537.

Re: recall ...earlier this year

I called GM Customer Service last week and they said recall notices will start going out on May 26. Until that happens, their computer system (and that of the dealers I assume) will not show the recall.

Didn't need the recall

After my fuel rail completely went out. I contacted Oldsmobile to see about the recall. They told me that my car did fit within the parameters of the recall. However the recall had not officially gone into effect yet. She also told me that she had no information as to when it would. I was informed that I could pay it out of pocket and be reimbursed at a later time. So I called Ray Skillman Oldsmobile in Indianapolis, and asked them about it. I was told that Oldsmobile had granted permission to them to fix the problem at no charge to the consumer. So I had my car towed in last night, and picked it up this morning with a new fuel rail. The only thing that it cost me was the tow bill. I suggest calling your local dealer or calling mine (317) 887-5873.
