Same thing happened on my Grand Caravan I ran a stop sign because of it. It was a good thing nothing was coming. A part in the brake system is on recall for the longest time. I went to the local Dodge dealership and luckily they took it in and fixed it for free.

Re: Brakes stop working
Hope you fixed it by now. If not, check your master cylinder to see if it's extremly wet. Total brake failure is very unusal.

Total brake failure
I have also personally experienced total brake failure on my '93 minivan. As one of the other respondents has said, if you push REALLY hard, the brakes are still there.
I am about to raise some hell at the dealer as this has been "fixed" once before. I'm beginning to believe that there may not be a fix (only a change to another brake system). It has happened about a half-dozen times over the past 3 or 4 years I've owned the car. Both the ABS and the Brake light come on suddenly without warning (sometimes I'm not even touching the brake). After the lights are on, I still have a few power assisted pushes left. The really weird thing is that it continues to "fix" itself. When it does, the boost (ABS) motor runs for a good 30 seconds to get the vacuum back up. |

Re: Brakes stop working
Check all tires for any oil leak, some time break cylinder leaks and it causes total break loss. Happen to me.
ABS is a problem and it is not going away although I have fixed all the breaks. |

At one point I was having issues with low brake fluid in my master cylinder, turned out to be a leaking rear wheel cylinder. The shop caught it when I was getting my front brakes done.
