2002 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet (progression sessions)
Hi guys!
After seeing all those fabulous porsches built on these forums ... And looking at my collection, realising I didn't have a single one, I was driving to my LHS to get some paint, and a Metallic blue Porsche Carrera 4 Cabriolet passed me by, I was in love... To my surprise, my HS carried two of these Italeri 911 cabriolet (now rebadged as revells). I didn't hesitate one signle second and walked out of the shop with the kit, a can of mica blue, and a can of primer. Off course I didn't forget my precious styrene and putty! Now I ve already started quite a bit on the model. as you might see on the pics, I managed to make clear lights, convert the front spoiler (about 60% done) to the correct 2002 specs (the ones with the turbo-style headlights. A correct lighting system and rear bumper are also being made as I write this. this is the look I m after anyone has an idea about which rims to use? so here are the pics ; 1= standard beginning 2= made clear lenses from the originals 3=first bodykit progression. more to come very, very soon. Nice! If you want I have a GT3 kit laying around.. I can "donate" some GT3 seats and maybe front/rear fascia?? It will be a GT3 convertible...
I like the 360 Modena wheels for that 5 spoke slim design that looks a lot like a Porsche 5 spoke wheel... if you just slap some porsche crests on the wheel center no one will know any better

What sort of putty do you use? |

I use the basic Tamiya putty, but that I put some CA glue in , to harden fasterin the lower layers, It's not the best putty out there I know...
I should buy some other putty for bigger modifications, but for this it should be enough, as long as you make a firm styrene skeleton. Olivier (and thanks for comments this early in the project! ) |

Nice progress with the conversion, but you know the minute you finish someone will release a new kit of this, or so 'sods law' dictates

I like this, and it also gives me an idea to use Tamiya's 911 GT3 bumper and side-skirts on Italeri 996 Cabrio

a fair bit of work has gone into it again, making the rear and front bumper right the way I wanted them.
Now I 've also had the idea of replacing the crappy (which is an understatement) rims with some 2002 18 inch porsche factory rims... Only problem being?.... no such rims are available on the model market, so I m making them myself. These pics just show an early WIP, there is enough work to be done, but I think I can make it ok, with lugnuts, with correct screws(sixheaded ones) and with the correct size and prooportions. I m planning of making them male type, so when I resin cast them, I can still use them on other porsches. The E.T.A is in about two weeks. Tell me what do you think , but remember , it's a WIP. many, many thanks go to ALEX, off course, for precious info, and help with providing the original rim (which was from a revell ferrari 360. Ciao Olivier |
