When ever i do a stage of my first car i will post what i did here so you guys can keep track of me and if need be point me in the right direction.

Anyway lets kick it off

I just got done getting rid of the mold lines. I picked up a file and a pack of testors sanding paper. I filed off as much of the plastic i could without messing up the lines of the car, i then spent a good while with 600 grit sandpaper taking the rest of it off. The hood section was no problem but the back bumper section was somewhat of a challenge. In any case i got them all off and didn't mess up the panel lines.

thats all for now. I will be picking up the primer and body color (Chrome Yellow)
in the next couple days along with the major parts colors.

Sand it again with 1200 grit paper.
600 will leave scratch makes in the body even after primming and painting

i can't find anything finer than 600 my hobby stores don't have it!!!! can you beleive that Jay were do you find the really fine grit papers?

I bought them all together in a polishing kit. It was $22 for 8 sanding cloths (1800-12000 grit), a 3-way nail file, a foam block and a foam pad (to shape the cloths), a polishing cloth (plain cotton ) and some polishing goo I haven't used yet.

Your local automotive shop/store will have a varaity of wet/dry sanding papers available for a really good price. That's where I got my 1000 and 2000 grit paper from.

I buy all mine from the local hardware store.
They have plenty to pick from.

When buying some get wet-n-dry and sand the model using water.
I find its a lot better then sanding it dry.

so i should sand it under running water?? hot or cold? I will take a look at home depo and see if they have it.

I would suggest not running water, but fill some vessel with water (rather warm, almost hot, but not quite) and add some dishwashing liquid.

I sand the body under a luke-warm water and so it's just a small amount coming out. Just enough to keep to keep the area your doing nice and wet.
After sanding the whole car and your happy with it, wash it in hot soapy water then wash it again with just hot water from the tap, wiping over the whole body with a nice soft cloth.
Allow a good 3-4 hours to let the car dry off in all the little gaps etc before primming

Update:
I picked up most of the interior color paints(x18,xf16,x11,x10,x26) today along with the Primer (white) and the body color (Chrome Yellow or TS-47). also got two brushs one pointy and one kinda flat (not those testor POS) and an exacto knife.
So i am almost on my way all i need now is the rest of the paints that they were out of and the super fine sand papers so i can start on the body. i am so excited!!!

oh and after i get done with my Carrera i plan to really jump into it hip deap and buy this
