Question Which intake for GST??

I just bought my eclipse and I want to put intake in it but dont really know what to look for. Ive heard Injen intake are pretty good but what about HKS,Akimoto,Greddy,Blitz, etc? Do they all do the same thing? What should I be looking for or pricing as far as performance goes? Im kinda new at this so any opinion will be helpful!!

Cool

My friend and I were doing all kinds of Cold air Intake shoot-out. Among all brands (HKS, AEM, Greedy..etc) I would say AEM gives the most Horse power.

I've a 98 Eclipse GS-T and I'm using this AEM cold air intake. Make sure you get is a cold air intake NOT just air intake.

In our dyno, AEM gives 18HP while HKS gives 13.5 HP. All this dyno was done with SAE.

Hope this helps.

Christopher1978-If you have a 1998 GST then why does your profile say you have a 1995 Mercury Mistique(isn't that a Ford Contour) family sedan?

DeJa_Voo, if you have a 95+ GST, the Injen are quite popular. Or check out Dejontools.com. Lots of full intakes for turbo DSM's. Good luck.

You can buy those name brand ones, if you regularly wipe your ass with fifty dollar bills.

Dejon tool makes very nice ones and they are decently priced. You could go with the 'ol Home Depot intake, its popular for the conservative tuner.

The 98' GS-T is my own collection. The Mercury Mystique is the car I bought for my gal friend. Yes, Mystique has the similar design with the FORD Contour just that Mystique is under Mercury Not FORD.

The K&N is the most popular choice for the filter side of things. On the pipe side, I went the Home Depot route that Talon007 so wisely mentioned I picked up a repeatable and consistent 60Hz airflow with it, and it cost 20 bucks. 3" ID all the way to the turbo. And now my turbo has a full 3" inlet, so its a straight shot in.

Yeah, but you will pay twice as much for the HK$ and it has shittier filtering capabilities.

I didn't know AEM made a Cold Air intake for turbo cars? Must be something new to me? Also what dyno were you using to do this test?

Rob

1. there is no CAI for turbo cars without a VPC or MAFT setup.
2. Dejon is the best bang for the buck outside the Home Depot route.

Stupid noobie.

There are lots of guys running a custom made CAI, they put filter where the stock intercooler was. It gets good air flow there.

Agreed, but it is not a true CAI with the MAF in the way

I think it is. The MAS may be a horendous restriction, but it wont affect the "coldness" of the cold air intake.
