Which Aftermarket Air Intake for '95 Rodeo?
I have a '95 Rodeo 3.2L 4WD with 112K miles on it. I've always been surprised at how restrictive the stock air intake is. For example, the narrow little air horn has about four 90 degree bends in it. A few years ago I considered buying an aftermarket cold air intake kit but passed on it because the cost was around $150 and the performance gains were minimal. (I think someone on this forum said that was because the exhaust system was equally restrictive and you needed to upgrade both to realize significant gains.)
Anyway, today I noticed that cold air intakes are being advertised on eBay for $22 or so plus shipping. That's not much more than the cost of my stock air filter which needs replacing anyway. The main vendors seem to be ChromeIntakes, Option Racing and Eauto Tuning. Has anybody purchased one of these? How easily did it install? How noisy was it? Did you notice any performance gains? |

You will see lower MPG. If you really want a highflow filter just get a drop in K&N

Re: Which Aftermarket Air Intake for '95 Rodeo?
Thanks for the link to the Isuzu Faq. That article had links to other articles and I soon found a bunch of information on cold air intakes. From what I read, it appears that there are pros and cons to using them on our Isuzus and conflicting opinions about performance gains. Some got lower MPGs, some got higher MPGs; some claimed noticeable performance gains, others noticed no improvement. Nobody cited any actual before & after testing.
Here's what I'm thinking about doing: I have a G-Tech Pro performance meter that provides very accurate and consistent acceleration times. For example, it provides 0-60 MPH times to a hundredth of a second. If I can find a place to do 0-60 runs without getting nabbed by the cops, I'll establish base rate 0-60 times for the stock air box. Then I'll buy one of those cheap cold air intakes on eBay and do more 0-60 runs. If there is any improvement at all, the G-Tech Pro will show it. This is how I tuned my old '87 Grand National. G-Tech Pro does not lie. If I go ahead with this "experiment", I'll report the results on this forum. |
