Question cracked windshield

Hi, I've recently notice a crack line starting from the bottom of my 92 civic windshield (probably because it's an old car and my parking spot is sunny??). I've asked some people and they said that you cant do anything about it except replacing the windshield.

Is there any cheap way to prevent the crack from propagating besides replacing the windshield?

thanks

You could duct tape the crack or replace the glass

i put a gigantic spider crack in my winshield last summer swatting a mosquito with my hand of all things. i duct taped it, put superglue on it and taped a bag over it to keep water off and it kept propagating. it went basically from the top to bottom of my winshield after about a week. the best thing to do is replace the glass.

Well what you could do is get a glass cuter and make a light cut on the ends of the crack. So it would get bigger you have to do it on the inside and out. Don't belive call a glass shop a see what they tell you...........I was right huh?????

work on my car

Civicdood,
If your windshields crack isn't too big, hopefully you haven't replaced it yet.
I recently patched a crack in my widshield. I figured why not spend 9 bucks on a do-it-yourself kit which might work, before I go and replace my windshield for 100 bucks? As it turned out, it was the right thing to do. However, the rock which hit the windsheild only left a pea sized hole, and the actual 'spidering' wasn't bigger than a quarter yet. The kit I bought recommended that you only try to patch a hole if it isn't deeper than one layer of glass. However, it worked great on the 'spidering' and even shows you how to repair longer cracks if you should have any.
I recommend the repair kits myself. I purchased my glass repair kit at Walmart.

Good luck.

Hey,

Well Don is right about that, you can always try a kit first, its' cheap. Thought personally I would just get a new windshield with a car that old. The guy I bought my Civic off of lightly tapped a little nick where a rock her on the front windshield, and it cracked out left and right about 3 inches on each side. Old glass has to get frail. So once it starts going it's going to keep, especially with age. If your insurance will cover it, you can always pay the deductable. But play with it and see how that turns out, but always use caution, because a little rock could it it again in the same spot and make the crack worse or "spider" your window.

Just a thought...
