pass emission = lean
Can someone verify if running a stage I and/or stage II (if the stage really matters) lean in order to pass emissions test will work??? Also, if running lean to pass does work, will this hurt the engine even if the car is running lean during the inspection only??

Running lean causes heat, so yes it can hurt the engine if you are running too lean. I little probably won't hurt. You should have nothing to worry about though if you aren't running high boost and as long as you've had the damn thing tuned right.

You don't want the car to run lean. You want the cats to be HOT, motor at normal operating temp, and the AFR to be as close to stoich as possible. As long as you don't boost you'll be fine.
