RX-8 vs Evo

I am more of a bike guy myself, but needing and wanting a car for rainy days and lazy days... I decided to start looking around. It didn't take me long to come up with a short list of cars to pick from.

Today I went out and road in the RX-8 and the Evo. Both brand new and both under 25miles.

I took them on the same roads and tried to keep the same speed in some of the turns to get a good idea of how they handled as well as how they came out of the turns.

RX-8 just felt smoother. It felt like it was holding the road better even though the Evo has the AWD. Not only that but with the RX-8 I felt every bit of the road. but I didn't feel each and every pebble or any shaking in the frame. The Evo had a little shaking, a lot more body roll, and every pebble was like a knife up my back in comparison.

Now power is a different story. In the vo I couldn't find an RPM range that didn't have power. It was as if the gas pedal was a go button and that was all there was to it. There was no lag when I pressed the gas nor was there any lack of power coming out of a turn or shifting through gears. The RX-8 on the other hand made me watch my RPMs and gears more. I could easily find the power range RPMs, I just had to stay within and everything was sweet.

For me the RX-8 wins the choice in overall car by the slightest of margins, however I am looking for comfort in a car as well as power. Afterall, all these cars can be modified to get more power then we ever need. I am a corner junkie it's why I ride a bike. Not to mention neither of the cars could keep up with my bike. So speed didn't truly impress me in either of them.

So anyway, if you bothered to read this far down. Suppose I were to get the Evo. Can you guys recommend some adjustments that can easily be made to solve the issues I personally have with the car?

The only other issue I have is how many people seem to be buying this car. It is currently a bandwagon car and I am worried it will severely lower the resale price down the road when the used car market gets flooded with them.

If you want to learn more about the evo check out this forum. www.evolutionm.net

There you will learn the true handling of the car and what it can take. Some one has already gotin it to 518WHP with no engin internals!
Also you should download some videos they have there on the car, that'll show you the true handling

Well...I still gotta go w/the Evo vs. the RX8...more potential and it's already turbocharged...the RX8 needs FI to become a contender...

Kamuko, allow me to have a few words...

An Evolution is a AWD car. The engine being inovated and developed for more than 10 years. It's a good car.
This car has a minimal of power lack due to the design of the blow air being connected back to the turbo intake.
Since it's an AWD, of course the pick up response is better than the RX8. But the weakness of the 4WD is, the top speed. An AWD car would not go smooth if the power is less than 300bhp. Therefore a lot evo owner done a modification on it. An ideal power for driving is about 350bhp.

The RX-8 would get my vote, all it needs is an engine swap, everything including the engine is far more advanced and geared towards true track driving, the only problem with the RX-8 is that while the engine is good it doesn't have enough power, a simple switch to a wenkel quad rotary engine fixes this though (it can generate 700bhp in it's turbocharged format).

Note: while not hard to do this is a rather expensive modification and would also require a new tranni. It's still simple, just not cheap.

The Renesis engine is too weak and has very little torque. The 4G63 trounces on it. The only thing I don't like about the Evo 8 is the guage cluster.

My vote in evey category goes to the Evo 8.

basically the only thing the rx-8 has in advantage is perfect balence... unless ur willing to invest heavily into your car, or you always race in mountain roads with hairpins from hell, go with the Evo...but, on a lighter note.. I like the interior and also the fact that you can be more than 5'9" and fit into the car (note...problem in rx-7) the renesis is actually a good engine if you think about it.. it alows for good balence, and furthermore, it reduces chance of detonation which made it an improvement over the 13B engine in the rx-7's ....just my 2 and a half cents

well the problem with the renesis engine is that the preproduction ones had a problem with letting the 3rd intake ports opening up at 6000RPM. thats like running a honda without v-tec. the base model of the RX-8 comes ith 200hp. which is essentially the same renessis engine but without the variable intake ports. when sport compact car dynoed the car. they sound that the power droped right off at exactly 6000. the car has a 9000 redline. which means that the 250hp car only made 200hp. the power is suppose to keep on goin up till near its 9000 rpm redline. given those conditions the car still ran a 14.4 which is very good for a 200hp car. you guys should really wait till they test the full production one before you guys can further judge the car. cause racing the pre production RX-8's are like racing a S2000 without the v-tec.

I am hoping that Mazda fixed that problem before August. That could be why they took so long in getting the RX-8s to the dealerships. Originally it was supposed to be a 2003 car but as far as I know they are all 2004s.

They didnt fix the problem..yet...they gave ppl credit and free stuff for being such idiots and screwing them over...w/a 230HP at the flywheel instead of 250HP at the flywheel car!
