RX-8 engine swap into RX-7 chassis

Ever since the RX-8 came out, I've been wanting to nab the engine for my own evil purposes... Has anyone put an RX-8 engine into an RX-7 chassis? Is anyone aware of a documented case on the web?

Re: RX-8 engine swap into RX-7 chassis

theres a guy who did it on the rx7club.com, do a search

i'd swap an S4 T2 engine thought, cost less, more potential, almost the same power with a full exhaust and some goodies

Re: RX-8 engine swap into RX-7 chassis

a shop threw out the EP motor and a 20B into the RX8 chassis.

For an FC, I dont htink the EP motor is worth it. An FD would be cool as a crazy car mod but I still don't think its worth it. I'm sure Mazda has some turbo version of the motor in the research factory right now. Greedy bastards.

Thanks for the advice everybody.

RX-7s are excellent, and the FD has special appeal for me. I don't understand getting too attached to a particular engine, though. Engines are one area where my interests are going to match Mazda's interests every time -- more power, longer life, etc..

The RX-8 engine has the spark plugs on the side walls of the rotor cavities, not the perimeter. This makes less trouble for the apex seals. Correspondingly, compression ratio has been increased a bit. That sounds like potential to me, and maybe longer engine life. Anyone have any thoughts?

They should just put the spark plugs on the rotors themselves, like the preproduction models. So what if you have to open the engine every 50k for a spark plug change? He he...

Re: RX-8 engine swap into RX-7 chassis

i think the renesis is already squirted of all the power it can make, with its port configuration, most n/a periport 13b produce between 300 and 370 hp. but this is with a race engine, with a very high powerband and a very low life lenght. if you wanna stay in the "under 300hp" range, yea the renesis might be a good choice, but if you want more power, your gonna have to go turbo, supercharge or nitrous.
