Angry Codes, Codes, CODES!!!

I just got back from Auto Zone and my engine light sensor spit out 4 codes. Code 1- 522-Selector Lever position sensor; Code 2- 113-Intake air temperature sensor; Code 3- 176-Oxygen sensor-mixture too weak; Code 4- 543-Fuel pump circuit. Does anyone know what I need to do about this? I just bought this car not even half a year ago and I've already had to replace the alternator... what next?

Sounds like you need a plug change/wires/air filter(possibly egr and intake cleaning) Fuel filter and a can of restore with an oil change!

Its insane how much dirty and old parts can throw a sensor off!

Check IAT sensor for scoring and build up!

Code 1: not exactly sure what selector lever position sensor is? Do you have a 5spd? Maybe its something to do with the selector forks?

Code 2: I would replace the IAC sensor.

Code 3: Replace the 02 sensor.

Code 4: Not sure what the circuit is...maybe the electronics. I dunno.

Sometimes these things only throw a code once and dont show up again. I would reset the computer by either disconnecting the battery or have someone with an OBD-2 scanner delete them from your computer. If a CEL comes back on, check to see if the same code persists.

The guy at Auto Zone did erase the codes. So far the CEL light hasn't come back on. I'm thinkin the O2 sensor is what is really messed up. Any idea how to check which O2 sensor has gone bad? Cause I know there is a front and rear one. Will a standard voltmeter do the trick?

Find someone that has a obdII code reader and it will tell you the history of all codes that have been tripped on your car. It will also tell you excactly what is going on with your car from idle degrees to injector pulse. Once you have found the problem then you can clear the code through the code reader....which is really the only way to eliminate the cel for good. Resetting your ecu all the time is not good.

I joined this board looking for answers for my daughters '95 Contour. Seeing all the replies about going to AutoZone{JesseZone} to get codes really cracks me up. Do you people realize that an ASE certified mechanic trains for 1yr before being able to operate scanners and the tools at Autozone get a mere 2 months training. I can't count the number of personal friends that have wasted hundreds of dollars because of false code reading from Autozone. It's a joke. If you want the right answers, don't be cheap, pay the extra cash for an ASE mechanic to do a propper scan and then fix the problems yourself.

Otherwise I really like the site. Very well setup.

how hard is it to plug an OBD II scanner into your car? I mean it plugs right underneath the steering wheel and it gives you the codes! Even I could do that. If your not satisfied with someone else doing it, then buy one yourself for $85. Its easy as cake to operate.

'95's are OBDI Note also that when I had the car checked at JesseZone there were no stored codes even though it would throw a CE everytime it was driven. Then the AutoZone guy named some other code test they are not qualified to do, hence {two months training}.

That being said, the car when I bought it for my daughter had an aftermarket fan hardwired in and ran as long as the key was on. I got a factory fan from a boneyard and installed it today. W/O driving it, the fan didn't kick on until it hit the "A" on the dummy gauge. What's the normal temps on the dummy gauges for these cars? I hate dummy gauges I would rather know the exact temp.
