i bought the shift control solenoid, where is it that i install it? I don't know where exactly on the tranny it goes, there are 2 of them, the code said B solenoid. Can anyone help me please!!!! I want to fix this problem before it gets worse, i know that i can unplug it all and shift manually w/ the 1, 2, and D. Thanks to anyone who can help

This means that there is something wrong with the second brake solenoid inside the transmission or something mechanical has failed. Normally a performance code shows that the problem may not even be the solenoid even though it appears to be - at least the problem is unlikely to be electrical. You could have a mechanically jammed solenoid or a failure in the main planetary gearset. What symptoms do you get beside the code. For example - are you missing secoend gear?
If you want to install the new solenoid you need to drain the fluid and drop the pan. You then disconnect the wiring to the solenoid and simply pull it out. The second brake solenoid is located towards the front of the transmission - the direct clutch solenoid is located towards the rear. |

well...the symptoms i get are:
hesitation into first (if i don't warm up the car) High RPMs in between gears everything works good if i shift manually, but sometimes it likes to stay in 2nd too long after i shift it into "D". But the car runs good other than that. I bought the shift soleniod but i don't know if i should replace it. i imagine i will use it since i paid 80.00 for it. So i have to drop the pan again...? Can this wait until i do the Tranny fluid again? I have a question also, what are the magnets in the bottom of the pan for...? What do they do>? |

Also, would timing be a factor in this? high RPMs in between gears?

I would suggest checking the line pressure. Since it happens in all gear ranges it is unlikely all the gear components have developed a problem (it is a possibility but more unlikely). Just to clarify - the P0756 code is simply telling you that the ECM has detected that the engine rpm is too high for the vehicle speed in the second gear range. This would suggest that second has delayed or that there is no engagement at the time the condition was detected. The code seems to suggest solenoid but that is not necessarily the case. If you have an air compressor you can test the old solenoid wiht compressed air and 12V. High rpm inbetween gears seems to suggest no load (lack of gear engagement).
Magnet in the pan is for collecting worn friction metrial from the clutches and the band. Part of routine service is to clean the magnet. If you have it opened up you can just wipe off the gray stuff - that the friction material. Yes, unforutnately you have to drop the pan to change the solenoid. It may not be the solenoid so you can wait until some futher troubleshooting is done. |

Re: Need Help W/ Engine Code...Got Code, Don't know where or how to fix it
well the check engine light has been off for like 2 weeks now... i went and bought the part but it still acts like before, no change, just that the check engine light has turned itself off... also my gas guage seems to be messed up. i know i need to drop the gas tank to change the fuel sender unit or something like that that sends the signal to the fuel gauge. Is this hard to change once i drop the tank? I don't think it will be. Thanks to all for helping...please w/b soon

With regard to the transmission - it is quite possible to still have the problem and have the engine light go off. This code is set by inference rather than by actually electrically detecting a malfunction so even if the problem is there the light could go off. It just means that the ECM has not detected a high enough engine rpm to signal a problem at a given vehicle speed. I believe the condition has to occur a given no of times before the light is turned on. You can either change the solenoid or do some further troubleshooting as I suggested.
As for the other question - what you descriibe is the procedure as I understand it but as I never have actually done this on this model of car I will leave it to someone who has actually done this. |
