It'll cost you millions.
Honestly, it'll be wayyy to much. First off, the LS1 is a totally different beast from any other GM V8. I blieve the Motor mounts are located in a different spot, thus meaning you'll need to do modifications to the chassis to accomodate this. Second, You'll need to get ahold of alll the comuter wiring harnesses.. the Computer itself, the EFI components and its wiring harnesses. Then try to wire it into a over 30 year old car... which isnt too complicated but still a pain. Third, I believe the system computers for the LS1 are designed to work with the 4L60E automatic transmission. This I'm not 100% sure on, but if thats the case you've gotta locate one of those too or put in a Manual. Again, I'm not sure if any old manual will match up to it, I think maybe the T-56 is all that'll work. And then, if you put in new tranny thats bigger or smaller you've got to have your driveshaft redone to fit in properly. < Mass headaces! I dont know man, its going to be costly... with the cost of a used motor I'd say it'd be around $6000-$8000 to make it all work. If you're going the route of new everything the motor itself is $5900... so expect near $8000-$10000 If you have a shop do everything. For no reason though man... Just build up a EFI motor for it for a 1/4 of the cost.

i dunno man i think it's alot cheaper than it used to be, i find complete ls1's with T-56's in good shape including computer and harness for around 3k and year one makes custom motor mount brakets for the ls1 conversion for about 150 bucks, with all that i guess the laber would be about 3 days worth of work so like 1500-2000 im guesstimating, a cutom carbon driveshaft would cost me about 350 bucks.
so i figured about 6k for the conversion, that's not bad for 340 hp 30mpg and a loss of 200 lbs just alum heads/block would run me 4k at least (new) not including all the other junk carb/intake/ignition/waterpump/crank/pistions/rods etc. but you have a good point, it would be a pain in the butt. btw that's a kick ass motor you have on your sig, what's its specs?

I dont think i've ever heard of a custom carbon drive shaft costing anywhere near $350... seeing as the Aluminum Driveshaft for the 4th Gen F-Body is like $600...
But, If you can get it done for cheap and you know the prices of these things....why you askin on here? You seem to know what it should probably cost. My motor? I think he's talkin about using used motors/trannys from wrecked Vettes/F-Bodies. Theres several outfits that specialize in that sorta thing. I'll have to dig around for the link to this one place in I believe Texas that does just that... salvages LT1/LS1s.

i posted here about because i was wondering if anyone has had any experiance in the swap, and maybe somone would know how much the labor would cost. That's a nice block but why the roller tips? most of the friction is as the base of the rockers not the tip, go for full roller rocker its much better.

ebay.com has them for around 3k all day long, junk yards pull them from wreaked vettes or f-bodys and sell the whole package for a decent price.

Why pay the money if i wont get full use of them? I'll need to upgrade to a rollercam setup to take full advantage of the 'true' roller rockers. These do the job just fine... for now.

Year One did this in a 69' Camaro.
They called it the "Inovator". If you go to www.yearone.com the one right there on the first page is it. It looks like a pace car with the hugger stripes on a white car, with an attempt at a late model SS hood. You can order most of the parts from them, or they can tell you where to source the parts that they don't make. They used the automatic though. I just bought a 68 camaro this weekend and was thinking about doing this very same thing... But since I just bought the car, I don't really have the money for this just yet, but I am definitely thinking about it.... |

RedNeck is right... to an extent. While it's not cheap, and not easy... it's not as hard, or as expensive as he thinks it is. Send me a PM and I'll hook you up with some sources for info on it as well as a bit of advice. Or you can AIM or ICQ me. The LS1 is a very different beast from the other GM V8s, but the rewards are very good IMO.
