02 GT mustang VS LS1 SS camaro

Last night I was cruising around looking for something to do. Cough. I definitely wasn't out looking for a race. So I says to myself "MAN! I'd love to see an LS1 about now. Just as soon as I said that...here comes a red LS1 SS camaro. Well...actually I said that about 45 minutes before the LS1 showed up. But anyway! I was very excited. And he wanted to play, too. From what I could tell he was definitely an automatic. So we're cruising along..he's matching my speed..and we mess around a little while riding down the road. We're each going about 50mph..I downshift into 3rd..jump a few infront of him...let off...he pulls up..does the same. We weren't really trying to race on a roll..we were just showing that we both had the samething in mind. So, now we're cruising straight going about 55ish..I'm in 3rd gear and he's pacing me..so I give him a nod..he nods back and takes off..I take off too. We're pretty even for awhile until a random car comes out of nowhere and gets in the LS1s way..so he goes around in in the shoulder and gets back even with me. I then point to a turn and slow down..he gets infront of me and puts his blinker on. So we both get in the turning lane to make a u-turn to my favorite safe straight road. We line up at about a 15mph roll and I hear him floor it, so I do the same. We're dead even. I shift second, and I must say..I shifted perfectly. but anyway. STILL dead even. Third. dead even. and at about the end of 3rd he pulls a nose away, so I let off..and he keeps going..so I flash my high beams twice and let him know that race is over. He slows back down and we go for one on the roll. I was going about 40 in 3rd..which isn't my ideal speed for a roll in 3rd gear. So I took off and jumped about a car length ahead of him..and by 70mph he goes past me. Later down the road I see him in a turning lane that heads into a residential area and I'm at a redlight even with him. So I roll down my window and tell him "I love getting beat by LS1s" he thought that was pretty funny. haha. but then the light turned green and he said "good luck!" and we both left. The end.

PS: I had another notable race in which I may post later. It was against a modded 350Z.

I love losing against anything, cause if i get beat, that means there were some high speeds and a lot of adrenaline. Good race Damp

I'm very proud of how I stood against that SS. I definitely gave him a run.

I don’t know why but I found both of those phrases very amusing.
Good race none the less.

Very good runs man and isn't it nice when we can just run each other for no other reason than to have a good time. Sounds like you gave him a run for his money which is something to be proud of and your a good sport as well. Bravo

Nice runs....If it was a manual it would have taken you by a little more. Sometimes its good to loose, it shows how much faster you want to be!

Re: 02 GT mustang VS LS1 SS camaro

Nice racing. Is your car completely stock? Sorry, but don't know much about mustangs, but aren't you at like 260, 265 hp, and an LS1 is at 320? It would seem that he would be a little faster than you then.

Re: 02 GT mustang VS LS1 SS camaro

well it was an auto. probbaly stock which means it shifts like a grandma. but even still he fared quite well agianst a car with alot more power to the wheels. i think 265 to the crank sounds right, im not a mustang fan nor that much of an LS1 fan, but even with an auto it is obvois he had you by a good 20-30whp at least, if not more. nothing to be ashamed of, which you're not but still, why just tonight i lost my first race in my truck to a Mustang GT. rock on...

Re: 02 GT mustang VS LS1 SS camaro

It is completely stock. And I had a passenger..but the thing is..he's probably like a mid to high 13 second car..and I'm a low 14 second car..so since my shifts were pretty much all dead on..and I kind of 'outshifted' his automatic because as stated before..they shift like a granny. But when we finally got into a steady gear..he pulled ahead because he traps about 6-7mph faster.

the ls1 is a 346 ci
rated at over 315 hp depending what year and option
your mustang is rated alot lower than that
so yes you did very very good
