Importing... Have an idea

Hi ..

Can't you just say that it is not for street use when you pick it up by the docks, then put it on a car trailer and take it home ??? That would be alot easier (and you don't have to come up with all the money at ones)

Then after a few years get it registreted ???

Is that supposed to be cheaper? IMHO, I don't see any advantages other than being able to say you have a GT-R. It hasn't been legalized yet, so you can't drive it. Basically, you would be stuck with maintaining an ilegal car.

All you're really doing is prolonging the inevitable. If you're going to pay to get the car federalized, just wait until you can afford to get both done at the same time. Either that, or go to Motorex or RB Motoring and get a legal car.

On top of that, how can you make sure that the Skyline you purchase is in good shape? Are you going to go to Japan and find a mechanic to look one over before you buy it? That's the other deal people seem to forget with Motorex. They have a contact that looks for Skylines that have few, if any, modifications and are in good condition.

Sport Compact Car put it nicely when they said that Motorex skips over cars that have been modded more to be different than to be better.

wow...

i've not said this in a long damn time, but read the sticky threads at the top, don't ask stupid questions. you'll get stupid answers.

you can't get around motorex and legalizing your car if you want to drive a skyline on the street.

no IF'S AND'S OR BUT'S.

sorry charlie, you gotta pay to play.

thats the stupidest thing ive ever heard trying to trailer it out of a CUSTOMS TRADE ZONE. Whatever company brought it in would get a fine that could buy your life! you cant bring in a skyline and have it leave the trade zone with out documents of it being shipped to MotoRex. And i guess i have heard of the show car theory and the bond theory but they are both ludacris.

not 100% true.

you can take it out as a show/exhibition/race vehicle, but you'd not be able to drive it on the street until you have it legalized.

so, yes, your main question, can you take it now, get it legalized later...

the answer is yes.

but why. that's my question...

i know of a few guys where i used to live that legalized a few of their cars by claiming them as kit cars. when you do that they give you a vin number and you can plate it. wouldn't this be possible to do with a skyline?

Probably not. It's been discussed before.
