brake switch question 92 SE

I have ordered a Brake switch for my 92 SE.

Reason I purchased this was the brake lights will not go off, thus draining the battery.

I was able to get behind the dash somewhat by removing the lower panel and the switch seems to be broke because wiggling the wires will cause the brake lights to go off and on.

But what I also noticed in a Hayes book, is that this is the switch for the torque converter clutch also,

Would this bad switch be causing a secondary problem of the car not idling, I can Rev to around 1000 RPM and all is fine but as soon as I let off the gas it dies.

Also how hard is this switch to replace, will I need to remove the bezel and gauge cluster to access ?

Lets see I'll take a stab at this! You didn't have this problem before the battery change did you? Your idle is controlled by your Idle Air control motor mounted to the throttle body. When you disconnected the battery the IAC lost its place and needs to be relearned. Their are 2 different procedures to do this. I can't remeber the one thats the cheapest but the other is to take it to the dealer and have them relearn the IAC thru the tech 1 scan tool. Call around some will do it for 30 minutes of labor.

Yes the brake lights staying on is what drained and killed the battery.

Yes the problem existed prior to replacing the battery.

I need to fix/replace the brake switch, so I dont have to do this dance over...

I would not recomend you trying this one on your own! If I remember right it is a pretty big switch that has to come out a little hole! There is an adjustment on the switch. Can you see the whole switch connector and all! Or is most of it buried behind the brake pedal (forward of the pedal)? If it is the one that is buried above and forward of the pedal you have to just about break it to get it out, and then you have to adjust it!
