timing belt 60K or 90K?

Hey all. For all of you with honda's (preferably 5th gen preludes), When did you change your timing belt 60K or 90K? I'm used to changing them every 90K but in my owners manual it say's to change it every 60K. Thanks.



Any input is good input.

when i bought my 92 civic it had 68k miles on it and i got it changed then... i've always heard around 70k

oem timing belts are rated at 90 but a change is suggested at 60 for good reason. I've ridden to around 70 but I would'nt suggest it.

It never hurts to change it early but it would be devastating to wait too long.

Im about to change mine the guy at my shop said around 100k its very needed and probrally should have had it already taken care of.
Also around this mileage on a honda, problems with the ignition will start to occur. Sure enough my car has been cutting out at when idling at stoplights and such,so i replaced my distributor cap and rotor sparks and ign wires and everything was alright.

well 60 is recomended, which we all know that, but i think alot of us get kinda lazy about getting it done, or atleast i know i have, it wouldnt be bad to let it go and it snap BUT unlike newer cars our motors have a closer tolerance which means when the belt breaks then you have to do a motor rebuild cause you have just bent your valves and just basicly screwed up the engine, and i have this friend who HAD a 93 civic dx until he let a friend borrow it and was driving on the interstate at about 100 or so and accidently ( so the guy said ) shifted into 2nd, big mistake first of course the timing belt broke, and then he found out 8 valves were bent. you know i just realized im rambling on about shit that doesnt even pertain to this post, sorry guys...

yea...so im at 116k and still havent done it. :repares to get railed on:: im still trying to find a decent shop in my area. i usually do all the work myself but ive heard from other 5th gen accord owners that the timing belt is a real b**** without dropping the motor. that shop excuse has been delaying me since about 110k which is still too late. its recommended at 90k on my car. i bought the car with 76k so maybe...just maaaybe the guy did it already. i doubt it though.

Well you've been lucky so far. I'd say keep going. It sounds like you could give half a sh*t anyways cause if you did it would be changed already. Tell us what happens when it brakes on you.
