Rear window does not go up

97 Regal 203kms

My rear drivers side window does not go up with the button..It is making a small noise like the motor is trying to but is stuck. I had to use my hands to force it up. Does anyone know what the problem is?

Thanks for your ideas and feedback!

Re: Rear window does not go up

Motor could be going out. Or a weak or low signal.
You need to take the door panel off and see if you have 2 or 4 wires that go to the motor.
If you have 4 then you should have 2 wires for up and 2 for down. Check the wires with a volt meter. If you have 2 wires then it should be like 12v up and -12v when down. It could also be the switch its self. If you have a drivers switch and a switch in the back then see if neither work.

Re: Rear window does not go up

Use a test light instead of a voltmeter.....

Should only be two wires going to the motor.....can just pop off door switch and attach test light to the two wires in the harness going to the motor(don't disconnect the harness from the switch)....now operate that switch or the master switch up and down......test light should be bright in both directions.....if it is and the window doesn't move well, then it's a bad motor and/or regulator.....

Most likely the window regulator assembly. I've replaced all 4 on on my '99 Regal LS. None of the motors were bad so I reused them. BTW - You can purchase just the regulator assembly without the motor or get one with both.

Thanks for the quick and accurate reply. Whats the price range for the window regulator assembly?

Thanks again!

Are you in the U.S. or Canada? $35 from PartsPro based in Louisiana.

Re: Rear window does not go up

Does the window tilt to one side or the other as it goes up or down?

No tilt to either side. When the switch is pressed the glass will sometimes go down. But fully stopped going up altogether.

ALSO: the rear power window button (both) aren't working, up or down. What is the cause of this?

Thanks for the help!
