Exclamation 96 Taurus ac compressor

Can someone telle how to straight wire the switch on the ac compressor to make the clutch engage my ac quit all of a sudden an I noticed that it was not kicking on just free spinning and I wanted to make sure it wasn't some switch or relay causing that before I buy a new compressor ? Thanks

Re: 96 Taurus ac compressor

There is a high pressure switch and an low pressure switch. The purpose of these are to protect the compressor in the event of either a high or low pressure situation. Shorting around either of these switches will not tell you if the problem is with a switch, putting a gauge set on the high and low pressure lines will at least tell you if the pressure levels are correct to where the switches should be closed, then you can use your multimeter to determine if the switches are closed. If so, your problem lies elsewhere. If the pressures are good but one of the switches is reading open, then, and only then, should you consider bypassing the switch to see if the clutch then engages.

Re: 96 Taurus ac compressor

65% of mobile a/c failures are due to loss of refrigerant, due to a leak....I'd put a gage set on it and see what your static pressure is-- if not above 50 or so psi (at 70 degf ambient) then you have lost 95% of your refrigerant.
