98 villager just quit running while driving

I was driving the van dow the interstate and it just quit running like it was a timing belt snaped. well I pulled the valve cover off and the cams still are turing, pulled spark plugs out and the pistons are still moving up and down, there is spark checked all the wires, gas is still being pumed cause I took the line off the fuel filter and turn the key on and shot gas out, changed the crank sensor. I cant figure out why it stopped and will not start now. please help!!!!!!

Have you pulled the distributor cap off to make sure rotor is turning??? ALso have you tried seiing where the rotor is pointing with #1 clyinder on TDC??? Have you triie squiting caarb cleaner in the throttle body to see if vehicle runs then??? How many mniles on vehcile??? ANy codes??? Is ther any broownish dust on the optical sensor (CMPS) in the distributor???

I am quessing the belt has stripped a couple of teeth off the timing belt and is way out of time. Good thing is it is a non-interference engine, meaning no damage to valves or pistons.

Knock sensor code I would not worry about, seeldom do the fail. Code normally just means that some other problem exists, causing the code.

THe out of track 3 code I am unfamiliar with. What is that code number???

I can't remmber what that code numbers was I cleared the codes and none of them come back. Could the timing belt have missing teath and still turn the cams over.

You would not think that it would run with teeth missing but I quess it depends on how many in a row are missing and if it contacts the crankshaft gear at correct time.

If you have spark, fuel after fuel filter, either the timing is off or theinjecotrs are not getting fuel.

I would pull the top cover off the timing belt and look at belt. How many miles on vehicle???

Have you tried carb cleaner in the throttle body to seei if it will run??

Have you checked the fuel pressure with a gauge after the fuel filter???

Have you checked for a failing bearing in the distributor, brownish dust will be on the optical sensor )CMPS)

Where did you get the distributor??? Is it a Richporter distributor. Are you the original owner if so when or has the timing belt been changed???
Have you checked to make sure the injectors are working??? Not sure if the injectors are fused or not , will have to look at diagram.

Re: 98 villager just quit running while driving

well I pulled the injetor out to see if the line was pluged and its getting fuel. the injector had some crued on it and the fuel did not reseed is that normal? I got the distributor off of a runing van so I know it works.

Re: 98 villager just quit running while driving

Did you install the distributor that is in there now since it quit running or before???
Not sure what you mean by reseeding fuel??? Pics are not focused , hard to see whats going on. Did you try carb cleaner in the throttle body to see if it ran before taking injectors out??? WHere is the rotor pointing when #1 clyinder is on TDC, is it on no.1 dist.cap terminal??? Have you checked the fuel pressure with a gauge and checked the fuel pressure regulator to see if is leaking fuel?? Leaking regulator would show fuel smell in vacuum hose. Have you done what I suggested in private message to you? Once you get it running I would add some Techron injecter cleaning to 1/4 tank of gas to help glean injecters.

Re: 98 villager just quit running while driving

no I left the distributor from the other van in there and put the other one in it since they both run. reseeding means that gas is no going back into the fuel tank it is just staying in the rail. you can see the grime on the bottom of the injectors and yes they are focused it just looks like cause of the grime I'm showing you. no I havent spryed carb cleaner in I have strater fulid that I'm going to try next.yes the rotor is on clyinder one on tdc. I would say that the fuel regulator is not leaking since the the fuel does not reseed.

I would say you do not have any spark, have you tested the coil. I believe the coil is external. Does it backfire when trying to start??

Fuel rail should have fuel in it at all times. If not the check valve in the fuel pump is faulty. The fuel pressure regulator if leaking will smell like gas in the vacuum line.

It might be time to pull the upper timing change cover and see if the belt is bad or not.

Check this video out, do you have a vacuum gauge?

http://realfixesrealfast.com/realfix...ag_T_belt.html

I know you said that the cams were rotating but this is worth a test.

Here is another test that might help you, vacuum gauages are cheap at harbor freight if you do not have one.
