FG Model products

Guys,

This isn't an advertisement. More of a product review of new items. I think there was a posting a while back about a South Korean company producing alternative wheels for the Fujimi/Revell Ferrari 458. I can't find it, though. Well, I ran across the seller on eBay and ordered some wheels. The wheels weren't listed on eBay, but I followed the link to the company, and sent him a message through eBay. His english is very good. The Aston DBS and 458 wheels are about $15 each, and shipping to the states is $19, but he combines shipments and the shipping via USPS Priority was fast and had tracking.

I've got to say upon a initial scan that these products are amazing! So much better than Hobby Design. I think they're resin, but the castings are so clean and smooth I thought it was styrene. The wheels look like the same size offered in the kits (meaning you don't have to go searching for tires), and they come with the fitting necessary to attach them to the body. Here's some pics and links to eBay and the company.

I'm going to order the BMW Z3 wheels (James Bond style wheels) when they become available.

Re: FG Model products

Great review, never heard of them before. The wheels do look like styrene! It's hard to believe they are resin.

I saw that they have Brabus Monoblock VI Multipiece... hmmm...

Re: FG Model products

@BVC: did you tried some styrene liquid glue on the sprues to be sure it is not injected plastic? To me looks strange, a mold like this to cast resin hasn't any good sense, I agree that it looks plastic...

Any step of pin marks back? I wouldn't do 4 prototypes or clones if I cast in resin....

Anyway: looks amazing.

Re: FG Model products

No, but i'll try this weekend. There are maybe three small pin holes on one wheel that need to be filled, so that gave me the impression it was resin, but it could very well be styrene. It feels and looks like injected plastic. The casting may not be as glossy like Fujimi or Tamiya parts, but they are very smooth and clean, with virtually no flash.

Besides the pin holes that are so small they could be filled with a dot of paint, these wheels require so little cleanup.

Also, the back of the pegs have stubs, representing lug nuts. You just fit the peg into the five holes on the wheel.

Re: FG Model products

These wheels look fantastic in the pics, I'd really like a set of the Brabus Monoblocks but after contacting the seller through eBay, he wanted $15 for the wheel set and $16 for postage..... seems a little steep to me and more than I'm willing to pay.
I've been stung before after buying 3 sets of Hobby Design wheels, all of which were crap and completely unusable.

Having said that, I think FG need to get these wheel sets into some of the online stores, provided the quality is consistant, they would sell really well.

Regards, Dan

Re: FG Model products

the shipping is priority with tracking, so its pricey, but I received my wheels in less than a week (from singapore to dc). unless its the slowest mail possible with no guaranteed delivery timeframe, int'l shipping is expensive!

Re: FG Model products

Thanks for the review. I had seen the wheels on ebay and was always curious about the quality. Price is a little steep but quality looks top notch.

Re: FG Model products

Looks like these products can be found on Media Mix Hobby now, so shipping may be a little cheaper for some folks.

I received mine by ordering through the eBay method several weeks ago and the quality appears to be top notch.
