Starter Making "Twang" Sound After Disengagement - 95 LeSabre
I recently noticed that after starting my wife's 95 LeSabre (82k mi), there is a twang sound after the starter disengages and slows down to a stop.
What I am trying to find out is if this is indicitive of imminent failure, or is it likely I might get quite a bit more use out of the starter before it fails? Thank you very much. |

Re: Starter Making "Twang" Sound After Disengagement - 95 LeSabre
There is no way for any of us to predict the MTBF for your starter. However, it is trying to tell you that it needs attention before it fails and leaves you stranded. I'd consider checking the mounting hardware since poor engagement or hanging in the flywheel can result from alignment issues. Make sure the bolts are tight and body of the starter isn't working loose from the cast nose piece.

Re: Starter Making "Twang" Sound After Disengagement - 95 LeSabre
Well just for the heck of it I thougth I'd chime in and say the starter finally completely failed yesterday. I used this procedure I found and changed out the starter.
Note: I did not remove the engine mount and jack up the engine, although I bet that would have made things a little bit easier. |
