GMC Safari 4.3 v6 makes clanking sound soon after it starts.

Starter would not turn off after starting, but now soon after it starts, it makes a clanking noise, like a metal fan blade hitting something in the way (about 2 to 3 clanks a second). I am in the process of removing the starter. I got the bolts loose, but had to go to work, will continue tonight or tomorrow Monday. Stay tuned to this thread, Thank you.

Does it sound like its coming from the crankcase?

Replaced the starter. The clanking noise stopped and the starter turns off once the enigne starts. Mission accomplished, Thank you for your support
