P0453 Inconsistent

I have code P0453 coming up on my truck.....
I just got a new gas cap and it didn't seem to help.
I had this light on for a while, but lacked the cash to fix it. Fuel pump went out about 6-7 months ago, replaced it myself. Runs fine except for the damn light. I had it "cleared" but it came back. Monday and Tuesday this week the light was on during my drive to work, on the way home, the light was off. I could turn off the car and turn it back on, still off. When I let it sit over night it comes back on........

I need to SMOG ASAP. Can anyone shed some light on this?

thank you thank you thank you in advance.

Year make and model and engine?

Did the problem start when fuel pump was replaced?

The code is for fuel tank pressure sensor reading high.

Make sure sensor is pluged in good and wiring to it good.

To test it you will need a good volt meter or a scanner to read out sensor data and sometimes both.
For more help.
Post back sensor voltage readings engine off and engine running and year make and model and engine.

Reading can be had without pulling bed but that helps get to sensor.
A good scanner will read out sensor voltage or hook a volt metorinto the sensor wiring for reading
And also confirm good ground.
Let us know what you find,
If you have old fuel pump it may have a sensor on it you can use for testing.

Re: P0453 Inconsistent

5v with the car running and 5 with the car off..... (4.93-5.02) I have a very good reader.
Ground wire is good, still checked out at 5v using the ground.
The green wire with key on reads 5v.

All lines look good and the sensor was new with my fuel pump (6months old)
should I pull my evap can and see how heavy it is?

5 volts on green sensor wire to VCM/computer says no vacumn tank.

As vacumn is applied to fuel tank the voltage on that wire should go down 2- 3-4 volts depending on amount of vacumn in tank
Vent valve controls vacumn to tank.
I would check vent valve and ALL HOSES AND HOSE CONNECTION on fuel tank for aplying vacumn to tank and for tank holding vacumn.
If inconsistent code also confrm good wiring and wiring connections and good sensor.
The plastic pipe for tank vacumn on tank sometimes gets broke off or cracked when dropping fuel tank for fuel pump replacement.

Re: P0453 Inconsistent

I did not drop the tank when I replaced the fuel pump. I removed the bed. So you are suggesting the vent valve is stuck open? I took a look and could not see the vent valve.... do you know where it would be? Is it screwed into the tank or....?

Re: P0453 Inconsistent

After some research, are you referring to the vent solenoid? Its between my tank and my evap can?
I double checked all my wiring and it seems to be ok. Everything in its place. I tugged on all the fuel lines and made sure they were snapped in properly. No visible leaks. My under-carriage is fairly dusty and I would see where gas is leaking for the most part.

Do you recommend replacing the vent solenoid?

Always test it out before replacing check for vacumn to it and threw it to tank.
And make sure wher the vacumn line goes into take is good and plastic nipple on tank is not broke.

A Vacumn leak is not a fuel leak.

Like are you getting good vacumn to fuel tank?

Does the fuel tank hold good vacumn or leak off fast or slow?

Is the fuel tank sensor responding to the amount of vacumn that is in the tank?

Did the problem start with the fuel pump replacement?

Have you tryed you old senser off of the old fuel pump unit?

What brand of fuel pump did you use for replacement?

If all else fails get some all data repair info and go threw the repair flow chart for that code.

Good Luck
