Right- front speaker

Hi Gang,

The right front speaker in mine doesn't play unless you crank in alotta volume then I have to bias the balance & fade to that particular speaker to even out the volume. That done, it plays without noise, jes' takes more power.
Anyone know a fix?

Re: Right- front speaker

You could try swapping it with the one on the other side to see if its the speaker or the amp, both are pretty cheap, if you want to go original amps are like $10 at the wrecking yard. Speakers are fine in ours but she wants me to replace the amp with one that has a port for her mp3 player, you can get a brand new one for under a hundred.

Re: Right- front speaker

Thanks Eric,
Do the front speakers come out the top?
The left front and both rears are ok.

While we're talking sound, the AM stations seem like they're getting scratchy sounding.
I disconnected the antenna wire under the hood, re-connected and generally worked that connection with no improvement.
The FM stations are coming in fine.
Wasn't there a fine tune screw on earlier radios (but after the tube types)?
The brakes are getting seated in and real nice.

Re: Right- front speaker

Scratchy sounds on the AM band are usually caused by RF interference from the ignition system, sounds like your spark plug wires are getting old and the insulation is cracking. As I remember from my youth, when cars only had AM radios, you could buy a power filter to eliminate the noise, and spark plug wires came labeled as low noise. Does the problem get worse as you rev the engine? Ignition interference usually increases with RPM's.

The fine tuning screw for the AM spectrum actually came into being in the digital age, the old dial tuners allowed you to fine tune the station, an art forever lost to our youth.

Re: Right- front speaker

Did some more checking and found the passenger side rear speaker isn't playing at all.
Saturday morning I'll pull the door panel and see what's going on.
