Well I pretty much narrowed down the consensus among most people is Castrol GTX as the best motor oil. Any thoughts? There are so many good kinds out there now.

Re: Does it matter what engine oil I use?
My opinion is that any motor oil will work about equally well, from the most expensive to the cheapest. I think the more important factor is how the car is driven. A nice long commute, with little time spent sitting in traffic at stop lights, has got to be better for the oil and the motor, than doing a dozen short trips to the grocery store, bowling alley, the kid's school, etc. where the motor oil doesnt get fully up to temperature each day.
One poster had a doctrine I liked. He changed his oil about every 3 or 4 months. If you drove it only 6 miles a day, that would be 540 - 720 miles, but the oil would have a lot of pollutants in it, from never getting warm enough to 'boil' them out. If you drove 80 miles a day, 5 days a week, that would be 4800 to 6400 miles, but the oil would have gotten fully warmed and stayed cleaner, and so would the interior of the engine. |

couldn't agree more. The MORE important aspect of this is how often you change your oil, not which oil you use! Mike |
