Question Complete valve job done. What engine oil for fresh start?

Okay guys, I posted a few weeks ago about what else I should change when I change the valve seals etc. So I changed all the seals, all belts, water pump, resurfaced head and valve seats etc etc, all for $800. Pretty good or what? The car runs unbelievably smooth now, and the annoying ticking noise is gone, and for some disconnected reason, it even shifts better now (where's the logic in that though I wonder).

My question: it's a fresh new start, what engine oil should I go for? And what viscocity? My brother says 10-40 Mobil 1 or Castrol, but I thought we all used 10-30 on these cars? Plus he says stay away from Jiffy Lube's Quaker state oil. Says its crap.

Re: Complete valve job done. What engine oil for fresh start?

yeah guys hears the low down on oil i work in an auto parts store so i get this all the time, Mobil 1 is fantastic stuff, If its good enough for NASA its good enough for me. The only problem is that If you have been running regular moter oil and switch to mobil 1 your going to run into oil leaks because the oil is too damn good for the engine. Other good brands are red line, royal purple, and AMs oil. brands to stay away from: any brand that has a quick oil change center AKA pensoil, quaker state, shit like that you get what you pay for. As for castroll GTX Its an Ok mid grade oil not bad stuff. For higher milage engines anything over 100k Valvoline Max life is the best thing for it, excelent stuff.

I run valvoline max life motor oil--I guess I buy into their pitch about how it conditions seals and is formulated specifically for higher mileage engines. I don't drive my car that hard anyway, and I'm scared to switch to Mobil 1 at this point because of the rumors about oil leaks starting if you switch to Mobil 1 at 75k+.

I wouldnt use 5w oil on a turbo car, I dont think its rated to handle the loads teh turbo bearings place on it. I would run 10w. The 30 or 40 doesnt matter much, just specifies what temperature range its rated to work in.
