Not a GP, but...

I'm working on my mother's 1994 Buick Century's A/C. It has been working great up until now, then it started leaking. I was wondering if anyone knows if there are any common places that A/C systems of that vintage leak from? It has the 3.1L engine..
Thanks.

Best way to tell is to have the ac vac'd out and then charge it and put some dye in the system in it. Most likely issue would be the compressor shaft seal though.

Re: Not a GP, but...

compressor shaft seal and belly o-rings leak after about 10 years old- bottom of compressor will be oily/grimey and front of compressor will be oily and slinging oil on nearest objects.

I rebuild those units - most opt to replace them.

Awesome, Thanks guys! Brcidd, Are they difficult to rebuild? And are the parts readily available?

Re: Not a GP, but...

OK, well, I ordered some parts. I got a double lip seal from ackits.com parts number 21-34659, the shaft seal remover/installer, the clutch remover/installer, and a shaft seal protector santech part number MT4024. The problem is that the shaft seal does not fit over the protector. The seal has a ceramic lip and a rubber lip. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on exactly what brands/part numbers I should have ordered for this car ('94 Buick Century, 3.1L). Thanks.

Wow, you're so clever. Did you come up with that all by yourself? You should go play in the Honda forums with the rest of the children; let the adults talk in here. And try not to wet your pants too many times while you're there.
