Temp slider light out

Ok, I know it's a very minute issue, but I'm a perfectionist. My car has the dual zone climate. My driver's slider's light went out. I've had the radio out in the past and noticed there's different replacable light bulbs on the back of the radio that you could replace. I was just assuming the temp had the same thing. I went to the dealer and they said you can't replace the light. If it goes out, it's out. Only way to fix it is to replace the whole thermostat heater controls in the dash.

I don't want to take my car apart to know for sure. Everytime you take your car apart, you just risk making extra squeaks. So, I didn't want to do it until I had the light bulb in hand.

Is the dealer right? Is there no way to fix it except a whole new control unit?

Re: Temp slider light out

I would be happy to look into this for you. In order to do so, I will need the VIN for the vehicle. I look forward to hearing from you.

Re: Temp slider light out

Unless you are handy with a soldering iron- you may want to consider sending it to a specialist that fixes control heads. There are several online.

If it were mine, I'd google the problem and find those who have fixed it before. The LEDs are intended to never need replacing, but you have discovered otherwise- If you pull out control head, you can see what the LED looks like and probably get one online or at Radio Shack.

Re: Temp slider light out

Beats me what good knowing the VIN will do to fix the issue.

After speaking with my technical contacts, it appears that the dealership was correct when he advised you that it would be necessary to replace the entire control. Unfortuantely GM does not service the bulbs separately from it. I hope that this helps. Please feel free to contact me with any further questions or concerns. Thank you.

From 20 years experience we already knew this answer-- that is why this forum exists-- to overcome problems NOT ADDRESSED by the Stealerships.. They replace, do not FIX, anyone can replace the entire control head-- but what a waste---when it is only a 5 cent item and Stealership wants $400 to "FIX"

"Hope this helps" is a polite way of saying-- forget it....
