BCM Replacement
So as many of you know how the BCM Module gets corroded and does all kinds of great things, I have cleaned the corrosion twice and it works for about 8 months before it happens again. I read that if I replace the BCM, it will need re programmed. So if I get a new one can I install it and drive the car to get programmed or do I have to let them install it. Thanks.

Re: BCM Replacement
If it is a new unprogrammed BCM you will be dead in the water until it is reprogrammed using a GM Tech 2 scan tool.
What year and model Alero is this?

Re: BCM Replacement
01 alero 3.4 GLS. I read a post someplace on how water gets down in there. I am going to try to find it and follow the instructions on how to seal it up.

Re: BCM Replacement
water gets in from around the left front windshield. to seal the leak, spread away the weather strip and apply clear chaulking and slowly press down so it will squeeze deeper inside the crack. this is between the weather strip and the windshield grommet. its not just BCM getting wet but fuse box will also get wet causing havoc on electrical system. I have 99 and I did mine 5-6 years ago and have absolutely no electrical issues many post here. except for once, i have not experienced Passlock issue either. ODO on 130k, other than squeaky frontend, it still drives smooth and quiet with good MPG.

Re: BCM Replacement
Where can you buy one? I looked on GM parts direct and its not even listed. I have 2 broken pins from corrosion!! I've had so many problems with GM electronics failing, perhaps someday they will chose to spend a little more at the suppliers and get better quality parts!!!

Re: BCM Replacement
Bought mine used off of ebay. It worked but I still went to a GM dealer to make sure programmed correctly. They fixed something I just don't remember what. If you send an email I can tell you where I ordered it from.

I bought one on ebay also, My wife does electronic work so I was planning to have her unsolder the pins and transfer them to the original board. How much did GM charge to reprogram your board?? Thanks-Mike |
