Replacing a tire pressure sensor

2007 impala - I'm going to replace a sensor and am wondering if I tell the car to relearn the tire positions, will it recognize the new sensor or is there some special reprogramming procedure? The new sensor is a Dorman direct replacement unit.

Re: Replacing a tire pressure sensor

There should be some information about this in your owner's manual . Good luck !

Re: Replacing a tire pressure sensor

You will need to program the sensor. The easiest way to do so is once you get the sensor replaced. Turn the ignition to the on position and press and hold the lock and unlock button at the same time on your keyless entry transmitter. The horn will beep twice and this signals the learn mode. If you do not have a transmitter apply the emergency brake and turn the headlights from off to on 4 times. The horn will beep twice signalling learn mode as well. Starting with the left front (driver's side) tire, either air up the tire or let air out of the tire. The horn will beep once, after that go to the right front (passenger side) and repeat. Then the right rear (passenger rear) and finally the left rear (driver rear). Each time you air up or deflate the tire, the horn will beep and on the last tire it will beep twice signalling that you are done. And from here the TPMS sensors should all be programmed

Thanks, the owner's manual actually had that procedure written in it. That's first time I've seen GM actually put something useful in an owner's manual.
