wont start
96 crown vic started up sputtered like it ran out of gas and died tried to restart it and all i get is a whirring sound almost sounds like a grinding sound motor barely turns any ideas as to what might cause this thanks for any help.

How old is the battery?

Is the starter solenoid enabling the engine to turn over?

im not sure one guy told me it could be a timing chain broken any thoughts on that

The engine does turn when you engage the starter but you hear a grinding noise from the engine while turning?
There's oil in it, right? If the timing chain broke, then it's likely shot. You'd have to replace pistons and valves on that bank at the minimum.
