Lightbulb 97 Explorer Sport

Recently started to stall on start ups in the morning... or after long periods of not running. Even holding the gas pedal down a bit the rpms still drop low or racing it up a few grand just to watch it drop, once it is in gear she's good to go. What should I look into? any feedback would be great . 144k. I was thinking maybe the fuel filter?

Thx Box.

Re: 97 Explorer Sport

Fuel filter wouldn't be a bad place to start ... especially if it hasn't been changed in a while. I had the same experience with a Mazda RX-2 (not many will remember this car). Had just bought it used and had changed everything (fluids, oil filter, plugs and points) but the fuel filter in preparation for a trip to New Mexico. During the trip, the Mazda started acting as you describe. Luckily, I had had a fresh fuel filter in the trunk. A quick swap, and the car ran great.
