Explorer/Explorer Sport Trac

Son just called. He is out of town and his 99 explorer sport, 6 cyl SOHC, 90,000 miles, has the check engine light come on when he accelerates and the car starts missing and shuttering. He had filled up shortly before. I told him to check the gas cap and make sure it is firmly on and my other thought is perhaps he got some bad gas. A couple of years ago I had a hole repaired in the plenum (sp?) and don't know if this could be a problem again. Before I drive 150 miles does anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks,

Jack

Re: Explorer/Explorer Sport Trac

Did anything else get done when he filled up, like checking the oil? Maybe the intake air tubing is not properly seated or was knocked loose when checking oil, or maybe one of the flex joints of the air tube is cracked or a vacuum line is stressed that only opens when the engine tilts under acceleration.

Re: Explorer/Explorer Sport Trac

I know he didn't open the hood. I will check the vacuum lines when I go up there. Thanks.
