UIM torque specs for 2002 with 3800 motor

Hi guys. I changed my LIM and UIM gaskets earlier this summer. My shop manual gave the same torque numbers for both sets of manifold bolts. It seemed a little high being that the upper manifold is plastic and you are screwing into the aluminum LIM. I didn't tighten to the spec in the manual and now it appears it is leaking. Can anyone verify for me the torque specs for the UIM bolts. Much appreciated. I don't have my manual in front of me now.

Are you using the stock GM UIM or an aftermarket like Dorman or APN?

Originally 89-in-lb for the UIM Plenum, however, GM revised that to 132 in-lb around 2003 in a tech bulletin. The LIM bolt torque is 11 lb-ft so that matches 132 in-lb. But to be safe go with 89 in-lb in the proper pattern which is what I use.

Thanks. I reused the stock one. Do you think it is OK. I see on here that a lot of people switch to an aftermarket one. I will re-torque them tonight and see if they did loosen up. It looks like the leak is coming from under the UIM.

Re: UIM torque specs for 2002 with 3800 motor

For 1999 and up GM cars with the NA SII 3800 engine the best thing to do is replace the UIM plenum with an aftermarket. The old one may be warped but hard to check out in that respect.

If you use an aftermarket UIM Plenum like Dorman they recommend going with the old 89 in-lb spec.

Good luck!
