Update: Replacement Ball Joint torque specs for the 3 bolts to the control arm.

Car is 1994 Pontiac Grand Am 2.3L L4 MFI FWD, Auto.

I would like to know if anyone knows the Replacement Ball Joint torque specs for the 3 bolts to the control arm.

The original ball joint of the vehicle is has 3 rivets to the control arm. I have to drill out the 3 rivets with 1/2 size drill bit. I got the old ball joint out and put the new ball joint. However, the package did not come with the torque specs for the 3 large bolts that goes to the control arm. I know the torque specs for the ball joint nut.

If anybody knows or can direct me to a site that has the torque specs for the 3 large bolts that goes to the control arm, please notify me.

Thanks,

Re: Replacement Ball Joint torque specs for the 3 bolts to the control arm.

Update:

I went back to our local autozone store and ask them to check an identical ball joint and sure enough their other ball joint boxes does not contain neither instruction guide or torque specs. I asked the clerk to check the other brand of ball joints that is applicable to my vehicle but it does not contain any instructions guide nor torque specs.

I don't want to just tighten the large 3 bolts to the control arm because I don't know if I over torque it and strip it or not tight enought that they might get loose.

I told the clerk at the autozone that if it is ok to request the information to autozone via online as well ask information from the manufacturer of ball joint which is Perfect CircleŽ and next to it is Dana Corporation. I went to www.dana.com site and could not find information about Perfect Circle and end up finding this site http://www.engineparts.com

I have emailed Autozone customer and http://www.engineparts.com service to see if they have information.

Here's the product info of the ball joint:

Perfect Circle
Chassis Parts
Dana Corporation

FA1381
0 23913 19096 5
17N-PERCIR

If I get those information, I will share it with you folks.

Re: Replacement Ball Joint torque specs for the 3 bolts to the control arm.

Latest Update:

I called Autozone support and they could not help me and was referred to 1-800-555-1212 Dana Corporation ???

I searched Dana website and found 1-800-223-9152 Clevite Engine Parts but could not help find the torque value and was referred to 1-866-804-7696 Perfect Circle but number is No longer in service and luckily it tells you the new number which is 1-800-323-0354 Perfect Circle Customer service but could not help with the torque specs either and was referred to a non-toll free number which is 1-815-759-7935 Tech Support for Perfect Circle and was informed that they are not open until 1:00 pm Central Time?

Anyway, I called up the that number and got a hold of a technician and explained the situation. He was surprised that the packages does not come with an instructions as well as torque specs.
He gave me this info and I'm sharing this with you all folks. To those that will be replacing their ball joint soon, this specs might be the same for all other year vehicles.

(3) 18mm size and 8.8 grade large bolts is torqued to 25ft/lbs
(1) 18mm Ball Joint nut is torqued to 60 ft/lbs

I asked him if he could email to me the intructions guide with torque specs and said that he can't email it because he got it from Alldata. hmmm.
