1991 Buick LeSabre with 3800 Motor
A friend asked me to look for help for him. His 1991 Buick LeSabre with 3800 motor is blowing black soot from the exhaust when idling between 275 and 500 RPMs. The coil pack and modual are ok. Replaced wires and plugs as well. There was carbon on old plugs. When running at over 1000 RPMs - it misses intermediately.
Any ideas for my friend Larry?

Has the oxygen sensor been changed recently? They are supposed to be changed at certain mileage intervals, like 60,000 or so. The symptoms sound like it might be a bad o2 sensor. Any codes?
