Re: 1995 grand prix trans issues

-misadjusted vacuum modulator
-low transmission oil causing low oil pressure
-internal trans. oil leaks
-low engine vacuum (unable to overcome vacuum modulator spring reistance to shift on time)
- leaking vacuum modulator
-slipping clutches (takes a while to grab under load)
-leaking vacuum line between upper plenum and vacuum modulator

Re: 1995 grand prix trans issues

I CHANGED THE TRANS FLUID AND IT WAS DIRTY AND I CHECKED THE VACUM LINES TO THE MODULATOR AND ITS GOOD. WHEN RUNNING I UNPLUGED THE VACUM LINE FROM THE MODULATOR TO THE UPPER INTAKE AND ITS SUCKING AIR PRETTY GOOD NOW WOULD THE MODULATOR STILL BE BAD BECAUSE IT DOESNT DO THE QUICK SHIFTING ALL THE TIME

Re: 1995 grand prix trans issues

remove modulator and if you see any trans oil coming out of the vacuum line fitting, modulator is bad. You can get the ones that are adjustable with small flat screwdriver. You insert the screwdriver in the vacuum line fitting and turn the screw inside to adjust your shifting points. Clockwise adjustment will make hard shifts.

Re: 1995 grand prix trans issues

install it like that for now, then if you don't like the way it shifts, you can always adjust it by turning 1/4 of a turn in the direction that you want. If your transmission clutches are worn out you will have to tighten it so it grabs faster. If you want CVT like shifting then start going in the opposite direction to achieve what you like. With this one you have to play since it all depends on your trans condition. You will see what I am talking about. Just watch it gets very hot down there.

Re: 1995 grand prix trans issues

There are two shift solonoids, and a tcc solonoid in your trans along with 1 or 2 pressure control solonoids.

Replacement is a big job, have to remove the sidepan on the transmission. I dont think they have anything to do with your issue to tell you the truth.

So you replaced the vacuum modulator, have you checked to verify the throttle boost cable is still connected from your throttle body to the top of your trans? If it is, there is an adjustment at your throttle body, you sometimes squeeze together, and you can slide the cable in an out increasing or decreasing its length. You can try to adjust that, go a little in one direction and test drive, and keep doing it.

I'm not exactly sure if your trans has a throttle boost cable though, 95 might have been right around the time it was upgraded to electric.

Other than that, when was the last pan drop, and filter/fluid change done?

Re: 1995 grand prix trans issues

try to disconnect that gray round connector on the trans. near the modulator, and use some electric terminal cleaner spray to clean both sides of the connector and put the connector back in.

I'm not surprised.

Send a PM to troy1. He is our transmission expert and should be able to help you.

Hey Bnaylor

read everything before being sarcastic @$$ hole!

- I even explained how to test modulator, so if TAYLORPCC decided to skip the test and just try a new one that is not my fault.
