Unbelievable how this week has gone. I am at the zoo right now and while I was definitely expecting to see elephants and tigers and gorillas I never expected to see another Maclaren!!!

Re: Monterey 2011 - will P25 find a McLaren F1?
Alright - enough sillyness, we should get back to the festivities here.
![]() 2011 Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca <-- Click! ![]() Formerly known as the 'Monterey Historics' this is a 37 year event that is the other big show in Monterey in August. While most events like Concorso Italiano or The Quail and even the Pebble Beach Concours last only a day during the Monterey weekend, the historic racing goes on for almost 2 weeks over at Laguna Seca. Saturday is typically the big day here because there are not any other events competing for people's time that day. This year I went for just about 3.5 hours and took over 400 photos of all sorts of special things. I got very lucky with my timing as I had not looked at the schedule, but about an hour into my day there the 250 GTO's took to the track and I was able to make my way around to the Corkscrew while they were running and capture some images. I'm out of practice on the pan/blur technique, so there's more blur than pan with some of my shots, however a few are still good. (I hope) It should be noted that most of these 250 GTOs were being driven by their owners (men like Jon Shirley) and these were no parade laps - the cars were really being pushed!! Once those cars returned to the paddock I was able to get intimately close to each and every one of them for photos. There are usually no ropes or barricades at the historic races - just a level of respect from participants and spectators that allow for 'look as close as you like but don't touch' to reign supreme. It is truly magical to get a chance to view these racing treasures from every angle at a large event like this. Also you will notice a lot of photos of the Jaguar XK-Es towards the end of the album. If you've been living under a rock, 2011 is the 50th Anniversary of the E-Type Jaguars and so every event around the world this year has been celebrating them. It is my mother's favorite car from when she was a kid so I tried to capture as many of them as I could as I moved through the outside paddock area just before leaving. If you make plans for Monterey next year - definitely put spending a day at Laguna Seca firmly on your calendar. It's worth the short drive and worth all the walking you will do just to see and hear and smell such a concentration of wonderful old racers and other rare treats! I may have gone there in search of a McLaren F1 which I did not find, but I certainly did not leave the track the least bit disappointed. ![]() I hope you do enjoy this set quite a bit! ![]() >8^) ER Last edited by Peloton25; 08-28-2011 at 07:57 AM. |

Re: Monterey 2011 - will P25 find a McLaren F1?
One humorous aside from the historics are these two photographs you might notice as you sift through the gallery. Without the background on what really occurred you might think there has been some kind of mistake and the same image was inserted twice or something. The real story is that I came upon this MOMO-sponsored 935 (I think it is a 935 anyway) and wanted to grab a quick snap of it. So I waited about a minute and a half for the gentleman here to snap his photo of the logo on the hood. That whole time I was waiting he didn't move more than an inch in any direction. It looked like he might have been fiddling with the camera, but if so the dedication he was putting into taking this one single photo was quickly on its way to earning legendary status. Finally I got impatient and decided I would just snap my shot with him in it and move on as I was kind of trying to hurry:
![]() That image was taken at 11:23 AM - and keep in mind, when I snapped the pic I had already been waiting well over a minute. I was going to forget about it as I moved on and took 6 photos of another 250 GTO but I thought I could come back around and get a shot of the 935 without the guy by that time. Imagine my surprise when a full 3 minutes later at 11:26 AM I found this man still standing in front of the car, still hunched over in almost exactly the same position. It was unreal and hilarious so I snapped one more picture to not only preserve the moment, but also get an accurate recording of the amount of time he was there!! ![]() It goes without saying that I would love to see the final result of whatever picture he felt was worth that much of his time. Seriously - too freaking funny!! ![]() >8^) ER Last edited by Peloton25; 08-28-2011 at 07:43 AM. |

He's "style" in most other places like SCF.com. I guess he wanted it changed here too, but either the name was taken or the Admins never responded to his request. I forget which it was.

Re: Monterey 2011 - will P25 find a McLaren F1?
Pebble Beach 2011 - Saturday
<-- Click! ![]() Photos from my mostly aimless wandering around Pebble Beach on Saturday afternoon including shots of the earliest concepts to take to the practice green behind the Lodge. You'll also notice a genuine unrestored 250 GTO which I stood guard over for about two minutes while the driver tried to find someone from the Concours who could help him get onto the lawn below for the next day's festivities. More weekend craziness! ![]() >8^) ER |
